THP Memorial Ceremony to Honor Officers Killed in the Line of Duty

NASHVILLE --- Tennessee Department of Safety Commissioner Dave Mitchell will join U.S. Attorney Ed Yarbrough, Tennessee Highway Patrol Colonel Mike Walker, THP Command staff, active and retired Troopers, legislators and survivors of fallen officers to remember and honor the 38 Tennessee State Troopers, as well as more than 19,000 officers in the United States, who have died in the line of duty.

The service will include a roll call of fallen officers, a 21-gun salute by THP’s Special Operations Unit, bagpipes playing Amazing Grace, and a special flyover by THP helicopters with one peeling off the formation to represent “the missing man.”   The service coincides with National Police Week and Peace Officers Memorial Day, which is also May 15.

General areas of responsibility include law enforcement, safety education, motorist services and terrorism prevention.
