Media Advisory: Nearly a Million Low-Income Households to Benefit from Cell Phone Program

Nashville, Tennessee --- Tennessee Department of Safety Commissioner Dave Mitchell will join elected officials and representatives from TracFone Wireless and local nonprofit agencies to announce a new program that will give low-income households access to cell phones.  The service is called SafeLink Wireless and will give eligible families a free mobile phone that will allow them unlimited access to emergency services (911).

SafeLink Wireless is a U.S. government supported program that ensures telephone service is available and affordable for low-income households.  More than 812,000 households in Tennessee qualify for the services.
