Tennessee Technology Center Opens New CDL Testing Pad

Monday, July 28, 2008 | 07:00pm

Nashville, Tennessee — The Tennessee Department of Safety (TDOS) announced today that the Tennessee Technology Center at Memphis (TTCM), located at 550 Alabama Avenue in Memphis, has opened a new Commercial Driving License Testing Pad in partnership with the Tennessee Board of Regents.   The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) was contracted to pave and resurface the testing pad.

Department of Safety Commissioner Dave Mitchell said, “We are pleased that the Tennessee Technology Center at Memphis has partnered with TDOS to make CDL testing in western Tennessee more convenient.”

Tennessee Technology Center at Memphis Director Lana Pierce stated, “Helping implement the CDL Testing pad on the TTCM campus has been a worthwhile project that not only serves Tennesseans seeking employment in the commercial trucking industry, but supports our overall mission.”

Effective Monday, July 21, 2008, two state certified CDL instructors began administering the road test to applicants at TTCM.  The instructors will conduct testing after business hours from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Saturday.  TTCM offers a CDL truck driving program and is equipped with a testing pad that accommodates skill testing and pre-trip inspections.

Before taking the road skills test at the Tennessee Technology Center at Memphis, applicants must pass their general knowledge test and any additional tests required for endorsements at one of our Driver License Service Centers in Memphis, Oakland, Covington, or Millington.  Once CDL applicants have passed the general knowledge tests, an appointment should be scheduled to take the road test at TTCM by calling the Summer Avenue Driver License Service Center at (901) 543-7920 or (901) 543-6519.

“The CDL instructors will certify that applicants have successfully completed the tests and award a certificate  that will allow the applicants to go back to the driver license center to receive the proper endorsements on their commercial driver license,” stated Department of Safety Deputy Commissioner Greta Dajani.
