New Driver License Center Means Shorter Wait Time

Nashville, Tennessee — The Tennessee Department of Safety (TDOS) urges Chattanooga-area customers, needing driver license services, to consider using the center located at 530 Cherokee Boulevard.

Studies conducted by TDOS show that the wait time for customers at the Cherokee Boulevard location is half as long as the wait time customers are experiencing at the center located at 6502 Bonny Oaks Drive. A recent survey found that drivers, on average, waited less than 19 minutes for services at the Cherokee Boulevard site, as opposed to a wait time of nearly 46 minutes at the Bonny Oaks Drive facility.

“Both facilities are full-service stations, meaning customers who need to obtain a driver license, handgun permit or a copy of their driving record can go to either facility,” stated Deputy Commissioner Greta Dajani. “I think the discrepancy in wait time is because the center located on Cherokee Boulevard has only been open for a year, and not enough people realize that we are there, ready to serve them.”

It is important that customers who need to take the skills test to obtain a Commercial Driver License or need reinstatement services continue to use the Bonny Oaks Dr. Driver License Center. These particular services are not offered at the Cherokee Boulevard location. The Cherokee Boulevard Driver License Center is open Tuesday through Friday, 7:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m. (EST). It opens one hour later on the second Wednesday of each month.

Customers are also encouraged to avoid lines altogether and visit the TDOS website to take care of many of their driver license needs.
