THP Traffic Stop Leads to the Arrest of Wanted Theft Suspect

Nashville, Tennessee —A woman wanted in Washington, D.C. for grand theft is being held in the Cumberland County Jail after a Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper stopped the vehicle she was riding in for speeding on Interstate 40.

Trooper Michael Williams, a six-year veteran of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, pulled over the suspect’s vehicle, a 4-door Nissan Altima, after it was clocked doing 91 miles per hour in a 70 mile per hour zone.  The traffic stop was made on I-40 westbound near the 305 mile marker just before 4:30 p.m. Saturday, January 12, 2008.   The driver of the Altima, 25 year-old Calvert Andrews from District Heights, Maryland, was driving on a suspended license.  Trooper Williams also ran the driver license of his passenger, Chelsea A. Brown, of District Heights, Maryland, and discovered that she had an outstanding warrant in Washington, D.C. for larceny.

Andrews and Brown were both taken into custody and transported to the Cumberland County Jail.  While being questioned, Brown told THP investigators that there was a duffel bag in the Altima containing more than $100,000.  The bag was found, and after the money was counted, it turns out that it held $111,514.

22 year-old Brown was an employee for Brinks Incorporated.  She has been charged with being a Fugitive of Justice and will be extradited to Washington, D.C.  Andrews was cited for speeding and driving on suspended license.
