NASHVILLE, Tenn., — The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Tennessee Department of Safety announce that two arrests have been made in connection with last night’s murder of a Tennessee State Trooper.Trooper Calvin Jenks was murdered last night at approximately 9:30 p.m. in Tipton County.

24-year-old Calvin Jenks was gunned down last night at approximately 9:30 p.m. in Tipton County.  His body was found on Highway 14 by hunters who noticed an unmanned patrol car with flashing lights.
Throughout the course of the night, TBI agents received information that the two people responsible had fled the area and had checked into a Best Western motel located in downtown Nashville.  With the help of Metro Nashville’s SWAT Team and THP Special Operations, the TBI apprehended the two without incident.
Orlando Garcia is a suspect in the murder of Trooper Calvin Jenks. The suspects, who have not yet been officially charged, are 17-year-old Alejandro Guana and 19-year-old Orlando Garcia.  A photo of Garcia is included in this release; however a photo of Guana has not been located at this time.
TBI Director Mark Gwyn says, “This is a sad day for law enforcement.  We extend our condolences to the Tennessee Highway Patrol and the family of Trooper Jenks.  No arrest can erase what’s happened, but we hope this will provide some measure of comfort to his loved ones.”
Trooper Jenks was a native of Maury County.  He is a 1999 graduate of Culleoka High School and attended Columbia State Community College.  Trooper Jenks told co-workers he became a Trooper to follow in his step grandfather, Wayne Hartsfield’s, footsteps and to make a difference.  Hartsfield is a retired THP Lieutenant.
Colonel Mike Walker adds that Jenks was newly married and had been a Trooper for less than three years, “This cowardly act has taken a young man from his family and friends.  Trooper Jenks was nearly the same age as my oldest daughter.  Our hearts and prayers are with his family.”
Guana and Garcia will be transported back to Tipton County this evening where they will be officially charged.  Both Gwyn and Walker thanked Metro Nashville Police, the Brownsville Police Department, the Tipton County Sheriff’s Department and other law enforcement agencies that helped capture these suspects so quickly.
