Nashville, Tennessee — Williamson County will open a Driver License Station in a new location on Tuesday, December 5, at 4248 South Carothers Road off Highway 96 in east Franklin. The full-service station begins serving customers at 7:00 am Tuesday with seven employees and a supervisor. The newly relocated station will be open Tuesday through Friday, 7:00am until 5:30pm.

The new Driver License Station in Franklin replaces the old station at 718 Boyd Mill Avenue in west Franklin, which had long been housed in a modular building initially installed in 1984 as a temporary location.

“Customers in Williamson County and surrounding areas that include Davidson, Hickman, Maury and Marshall Counties will appreciate the convenient location off I-65” said Department of Safety Interim Commissioner Gerald Nicely. “The old station on Boyd Mill Avenue was never intended to be a full-service facility and consequently, problems such as inadequate space and even flooding had hampered effective service.”

The old building had only 58 square feet of customer space. The new facility consists of a larger 5,900 square feet. It also includes space for county offices of the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Williamson County ’s Driver License Station serves 3,000 customers per month with 1,900 exams and other services, including commercial driver license knowledge tests. The office also assists motorist with answers about reinstating revoked and suspended licenses, but is not a reinstatement facility. There are 125,398 licensed drivers in Williamson County .

Earlier this year, the Department of Safety opened new driver license stations in Rutherford, Fayette and Fentress Counties with supplemental budget funding approved last July. Before Christmas, stations will also open in Shelby and Obion Counties . New stations in Robertson and Hamilton counties are scheduled for January 2007.

The new Williamson County DL Station is open Tuesday through Friday, 7:00am until 5:30pm. To reach it:

From Nashville : Take I-65 South to Hwy 96. Exit onto Hwy 96 and take left at light. Cross over Interstate and turn right at Carothers Road.

From Columbia : Take I-65 North to Hwy 96. Exit onto Hwy 96 and take a right. Turn right on Carothers Rd.
