Tennessee Unemployment Claims Filed for week ending on May 30, 2020

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Gov. Bill Lee has authorized to deploy elements of the 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment, Tennessee National Guard and provide support to the Washington D.C. National Guard. The deployment is a result of a request from Gen. Joseph Lengyel, Chief of the National Guard Bureau, to the Tennessee Military Department on Monday evening.

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee, Lt. Gov. Randy McNally, House Speaker Cameron Sexton, and the Financial Stimulus Accountability Group announced a new relief program for Tennessee businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Tennessee Business Relief Program will direct approximately $200 million in federal Coronavirus Relief Funds through the Department of Revenue directly to small businesses that qualify.

Tennesseans who utilize the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to feed their families now have a new resource to help during the COVID-19 pandemic. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has approved Tennessee for a pilot program that allows SNAP benefits to be used to buy food online with Amazon and Walmart.

Following incidents of violence in downtown Nashville, Governor Bill Lee announced today that the Tennessee National Guard will remain mobilized across the state and that the Department of Safety and Homeland Security, in coordination with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and local law enforcement authorities, will launch an investigation into unlawful incidents that occurred overnight.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Governor Bill Lee issued the following statement: “The protests in Murfreesboro are no longer peaceful demonstrations but have escalated to overt threats to public safety and property. I support Mayor McFarland’s 7 p.m. curfew and have authorized both the Tennessee Highway Patrol and the National Guard to provide support on the ground in restoring order for the safety of our citizens.”

TIPTONVILLE – The latest round of mass COVID-19 testing at the Northwest Correctional Complex has now been completed.

MORGAN COUNTY – A group of East Tennessee residents and inmates have been charged in an extensive TDOC investigation into the introduction of contraband into state prisons.

The Tennessee Department of Human Services (TDHS) is implementing new COVID-19 precautions for all visitors entering office lobbies across the state. These rules will impact customers coming into state offices for scheduled in-person appointments beginning Monday, June 1, 2020.

Gainesboro, Tenn. - The Special Investigations Section of the Tennessee Department of Revenue conducted the investigation that led to former Jackson County Clerk, Amanda Stafford, pleading guilty Thursday to two counts of theft related to fraudulent motor vehicle registrations.
