Person-to-person payment systems, like PayPal, Venmo, and Zelle, allow consumers to link bank accounts, debit cards, and/or credit cards in order to send and receive money to another party via mobile and desktop applications.

NASHVILLE - Tennessee Bureau of Workers’ Compensation Administrator Abbie Hudgens has been named president of a prestigious national association. Members of the International Association of Industrial Accident Boards and Commissions (IAIABC) recently elected their 2018 – 2019 board of directors and welcomed Hudgens as the board’s new president.

Bill Haslam today made the following statement on death row inmate Edmund Zagorski: “I am granting to Edmund Zagorski a reprieve of 10 days from execution of the sentence of death imposed upon by him by a jury in 1984 which was scheduled to be carried out later today. I take seriously the responsibility imposed upon the Tennessee Department of Correction and me by law, and given the federal court’s decision to honor Zagorski’s last-minute decision to choose electrocution as the method of execution, this brief reprieve will give all involved the time necessary to carry out the sentence in an orderly and careful manner.”

Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Bob Rolfe and ZLINE Kitchen and Bath officials announced today the company will locate its new distribution headquarters in Bruceton. The kitchen range and hood manufacturer and distributor will create 74 new jobs and invest $3 million in Carroll County.

LEXINGTON - The Special Investigations Section of the Tennessee Department of Revenue conducted the investigation that led to the indictment and arrest of Tamara James, 36.

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC) released college enrollment data for the fall 2018 semester, indicating that 221,775 students across the state enrolled in community colleges and public universities for the 2018-2019 academic year. This marks the third consecutive year that postsecondary enrollment has grown across the state, and an increase of 1,656 additional students compared to fall 2017.

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam today appointed Darrell L. Scarlett of Murfreesboro as Circuit Court judge for the 16th Judicial District, which serves Rutherford and Cannon counties. The appointment fills a new trial court judgeship established this year by the Tennessee General Assembly. “We are fortunate to have someone with Darrell Scarlett’s experience in the 16th Judicial District,” Haslam said. “That experience prepares him well to serve in this newly created position.”

Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam and Economic and Community Development Commissioner Bob Rolfe recently approved more than $550,000 in Façade Improvement Grants to assist Tennessee communities with downtown improvements.

Chatel-Chehery, France – Eighteen members of the Tennessee Army and Air National Guard traveled to France early this week to take part in the 100th Anniversary Celebration of Tennessean Sergeant Alvin C. York’s heroic actions during World War I that merited the award of the Congressional Medal of Honor.

NASHVILLE – Gov. Bill Haslam has appointed Andrew J. Gibbons of Kingsport as public defender for the Second Judicial District, which serves Sullivan County. Gibbons will replace Stephen Wallace, whose retirement is effective November 1. Gibbons has been an assistant public defender in the district since 2001. In that position, he handled a wide range of criminal defense cases. A lifelong resident of Sullivan County, Gibbons has worked closely with Wallace in his previous position.
