Private Investigator
The grace period for your license is 30 days. When you renew during the grace period, you are charged a late fee of $100. You will be notified of the steps needed to complete a reapplication.

Polygraph Examiner
The grace period for your license is 6 months. When you renew during the grace period, you are charged a late fee of $100 per month. You will be notified of the steps needed to complete a reapplication.

If you do not renew your license or registration timely, you can reinstate your expired license or registration by visiting core.tn.gov. You will be required to provide all documentation required for an initial license or registration.
If you wish to place your license in retirement, mail a written request, along with your license certificate, pocket card, and a payment of $100, to the Tennessee Private Investigation & Polygraph Examiners at 500 James Robertson Parkway, Nashville, TN 37243.
Only licenses that are current and in good standing may be retired. No retired licensee may engage in any act defined in TCA § 62-26-202. While in retired status, licensees must continue to renew their license. There are no affiliation or education requirements while retired.
If you wish to reactivate your license, mail a written request, along with proof of completing your continuing education requirements and a payment of $100, to the Tennessee Private Investigation & Polygraph Examiners at 500 James Robertson Parkway, Nashville, TN 37243.
Upon receipt of proof of such requirements and payment of appropriate fees, a retired license shall automatically be changed from retired to active.
This is completed through your CORE account. Once signed in, select the "My License or Permit" tile within the Quick Actions menu. A new screen will appear where you can select what information needs to be updated. Click "Select" and proceed with the online instructions. There is no fee associated with this request.
Companies should contact the program at Private.Investigation.Polygraph@tn.gov to provide additional information on changes, such as a change in address or termination of an investigator.
