Professional Geologists Licensing ProgramThe grace period is six (6) months. The penalty for a late renewal is $25 for each month or fraction of a month that passes during the six (6) months following the month of expiration. If renewal is more than six (6) months, the licensee must reapply for registration and pay the requisite fees.

Any person seeking renewal of a license more than six (6) months after the expiration date of the license is required to reapply for registration and pay the requisite fees.
How to Reinstate an Expired License

Active to Inactive
Complete an inactive status request through your CORE account. The fee for this transaction is $35.
A registrant whose license is inactive may not conduct any plans, plats, drawings, reports, or other geologic papers or documents involving geologic work. While inactive, a licensee shall not represent themselves as a geologist in Tennessee. No continuing education shall be required for renewal of an inactive license. Inactive licenses shall be renewed biannually.
Inactive to Active
Complete an inactive to active request through your CORE account. The fee for this transaction is $65.
Affidavit Establishing Retired Status
Complete an affidavit establishing retired status through your CORE account. The fee for this transaction is $25.
A person whose license is retired may not engage or participate in any activities requiring them to be a licensed Land Surveyor in accordance with TCA 62-18-116(a)(1)(B).
Reporting home, business, and/or mailing address changes is the responsibility of the licensee and can be completed through their CORE account. Once signed in, select the "My License or Permit" tile within the Quick Actions menu. A new screen will appear where you can select what information needs to be updated. Click "Select" and proceed with the online instructions. There is no fee associated with this request.
Each business that provides geology services as its primary activity in Tennessee must file a Firm Disclosure form per Rule 0780-05-07-.04(6).
