Exam Information

Eligibility for the Fundamentals of Geology (FG) Exam: Applicants must have successfully completed a minimum of thirty (30) semester or forty-five (45) quarter-hours of coursework in geology, geophysics, geochemistry, engineering geology, or their subdivisions in accordance with T.C.A. §62-36-109(a)(2).

Eligibility for the Practice of Geology (PG) Exam: Applicants must have successfully completed at least five (5) years of geological education and professional experience in accordance with T.C.A. §62-36-109(a)(2).

Pre-Registration Process: Once an application is approved, eligible candidates will be pre-registered with Prometric, the testing vendor. Approximately six weeks before the exam date, candidates will receive an email from registrations@isoqualitytesting.com with instructions on how to register, pay, and schedule their exams.

Exam Application and Scheduling: Candidates are encouraged to apply early to ensure that seating can be secured at one of their preferred testing locations. There is no application deadline as seats are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Seats have been reserved in locations with limited capacity, and these blocks will be removed ten (10) days before the exams. Additional resources can be found on the ASBOG website.

Practice Test Opportunity: Candidates may practice the computer-based test format through a no-cost “Test Drive” provided by Prometric, accessible via the ASBOG website.

Examination Results: Results will be released to the board office approximately 60 to 90 days after the exam date. ASBOG does not release results directly to candidates. You will receive your examination results via email from the board office shortly after they are received.
