Weekly Roadway Activity Report for TDOT Region 2 (May 23 - 29, 2019)

In anticipation of increased travel this Memorial Day weekend, the Tennessee Department of Transportation will suspend all construction-related lane closures on interstates and state routes beginning at 12:00 noon on Friday, May 24 through 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28.

DISTRICT 27

CUMBERLAND COUNTY I-40 Resurfacing from near the parking area (MM 306.34) to east of Exit 311 (MM 311.12): Construction signs have been installed. The contractor is scheduled to pave eastbound and westbound which will require night time lane closures. State trooper assistance will be requested. Working hours will be from 7 PM to 6 AM. During working hours, the speed limit will be reduced from 70 mph to 60 mph using digital speed limit sign assemblies.  Estimated project completion date is August 2019.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY SR-101 (Peavine Road) Grading, drainage, and paving from Firetower Road to Westchester/Catoosa Boulevard: As grade work progresses, motorists should be alert for shifts in traffic patterns to allow for construction activities. The posted speed limit has been reduced from 45 mph to 35 mph within the work zone. Temporary lane closures and traffic stoppages may be needed to support ongoing work. Lane and/or road closures will be needed within Fairfield Glade to allow for installation of a storm drain and relocation of utilities. If needed, alternate routes will be coordinated with the Glade and properly identified. Motorists should reduce speeds on Peavine Road and be alert for construction personnel/equipment entering and exiting the roadway.  Estimated project completion date is November 2020.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY Utility Work on I-40 in both directions near exit 322 in Crossville:  A rolling road block will take place for utility work on I-40 at Exit 322 (Peavine Road) on Wednesday, May 29th around mid-day. Motorists should use caution when driving through the work zone.

FENTRESS COUNTY Rotten Fork Road over Rotten Fork of the Wolf River Bridge Replacement: Work on this site has been postponed until further notice to the contractor. The existing roadway will remain open during the course of construction, but motorists are encouraged to use caution around construction site due to close proximity of construction equipment. Estimated project completion date is November 2019.

FENTRESS COUNTY SR-28 (US-127) Bridge repair over the Wolf River (LM 29.4): The contractor has scheduled to start work on 06/10/19. A temporary signal system will be put in place and SR-28 will be reduced to one lane for the duration of the work. Motorists are encouraged to use caution in the work area and watch for construction equipment. RESTRICTIONS: Loads wider than 10' should seek alternate route. Estimated project completion date is August 2019.

FENTRESS COUNTY SR-52, SR-154 and SR-297 Resurfacing (microsurfacing): The contractor has re-scheduled their work to begin 05/28/19. The contractor will keep one lane open at all times during the paving operation. The routes covered in the project are SR-52 from east of US-127 (SR-28) (LM 13.60) to SR-296 (LM 17.62), SR-154 from north of Louvaine Road (LM 6.25) to the Pickett County line (LM 13.48), and SR-297 from SR-154 (LM 0.00) to the Scott County line (LM 8.79). Motorists are encouraged to use caution and watch for construction equipment in the roadway.  Estimated project completion date is June 2019.

FENTRESS COUNTY Vines Ridge Road over Big Laurel Creek Bridge Replacement: Vines Ridge Road remains closed at LM 1.06 and will remain closed until new bridge is constructed and in place. Approximate length of closure is scheduled until 07/31/19. Motorists should seek alternate route around Vines Ridge Road near location of construction. Estimated project completion date is November 2019.

FENTRESS AND OVERTON COUNTY SR-85 Emergency slide repairs at various locations: The roadway is closed from LM 18.4 to LM 22.4 in Overton county. SR-85 is also closed in Fentress County between LM 5.75 and 8.00. The contractor is continuing work on this contract in the two areas listed where the roadway is closed. Motorists are encouraged to use caution and seek alternate routes. Estimated project completion date is November 2019.

PUTNAM COUNTY I-40 near MM 296 Bridge repair on Rocky Point Road over I-40: Rocky Point Road bridge at LM 10.08 over I-40 will be closed due to bridge repairs and re-open in June 2019. A detour is in place to guide motorists around the bridge closure. Motorists are advised to use caution and be alert to all construction signage while traveling through the work zone.  Estimated project completion date is August 2019.

PUTNAM COUNTY SR-111 (LM 4.08) at I-40 (MM 288) Signal installation on east and westbound ramps in Cookeville, including grading, drainage and paving: The contractor will be constructing foundations for the traffic signal poles along SR-111 North and South and along each of the I-40 ramps. This will result in temporary shoulder closures each day. The contractor has begun widening the I-40 westbound off-ramp, resulting in a right shoulder closure with barrier rail. Right turns from the westbound off-ramp onto SR-111 North are not allowed while this area is being excavated. This closure will be in place until 06/01/19. Motorists are advised to use an alternate route during this time. If they must travel through this area, they will experience long delays, as the left turn movement will be the only one allowed. Motorists should use caution when traveling through the work zone. Estimated project completion date is June 2019.

PUTNAM COUNTY Utility Work on SR-136 (N. Washington Avenue) in both directions from LM 4.5 to LM 5.4: Utility work will take place between 4th St. & 6th St. Signage, barrels, and cones will be present during this work. Motorists should use caution and be aware of flaggers. Work should continue through 06/28/2019 between 9 AM and 3PM.

WHITE COUNTY SR-1 (US-70) Bridge repair over the Calfkiller River (LM 9.35) in Sparta: The Calfkiller bridge in Sparta will be in the first of the three permanent phases of lane closures. These phases will affect between Wilson Street and Church Street. This first phase will restrict the west bound traffic to one lane, while retaining the left turn lane and two lanes of traffic in the east bound direction. This phase is expected to be completed by mid-June 2019. Motorists are advised to use caution and be alert to all construction signage while traveling through the work zone. Estimated project completion date is September 2019.

BLEDSOE COUNTY SR-101 Bridge repair over Bee Creek (LM 8.98): Work on this project is underway. For the safety of the traveling public, the bridge will be reduced to one 10 foot lane and controlled with temporary signals. RESTRICTIONS: 10 foot lane Estimated project completion date is September 2019.

COFFEE COUNTY I-24 Resurfacing from Bedford County (MM 96) to Noah Fork Creek (MM 101) including bridge deck repair: The contractor will continue the paving process of the roadway surface work each Sunday thru Thursday during the hours of 7 PM each night to 6 AM the following morning. There will be lane closures during all work process. Motorists should use extreme caution. Law enforcement and safety personnel will be present.  Estimated project completion date is August 2019.

COFFEE COUNTY Utility Work on SR-53 (Woodbury Highway) in both directions from LM 4.23 to LM 8.72: Intermittent lane closures for utility work along Woodbury Hwy from near Gladys Lane to near Pomroy Road. Signage and flaggers will be used. Motorists should use caution. Work will take place from 05/29/2019 through 09/05/2019 between 9 AM and 3 PM.

GRUNDY COUNTY SR-56 (US-41) Resurfacing from the Marion County line (LM 0) to SR-56 (LM 5.5): The contractor will begin the first phase of the project. There may be shoulder closures and possible temporary lane closures to support the installation of signs, and shoulder work. Estimated project completion date is September 2019.

MARION COUNTY TDOT Maintenance on SR-2 (US-HWY. 41) in both directions from LM 25.6: Slide repair work has the route reduced to one lane with traffic signals controlling alternating directions.

MARION COUNTY Utility Work on SR-27 (US-HWY. 72) in both directions from LM 4.67 to LM 7.52: A mobile lane closure for aerial work will take place along Hwy 27 between Hwy 41 at East Valley Rd. Motorists should use caution and be aware of flaggers. Work will take place from 04/23/2019 to 07/01/2019 between 6 AM and 4 PM.

MARION COUNTY SR-156 over Running Water Creek (LM 25.58) Bridge rehabilitation: SR-156 is reduced to one 10 foot lane across Running Water Creek Bridge and controlled with a temporary traffic signal while the bridge is repaired. Please use caution when traveling through this area. RESTRICTIONS: 10 foot lane Estimated project completion date is October 2019.

VANBUREN COUNTY SR-111 Resurfacing from south of Connell Road (LM 17.8) to the White County line (LM 19.5): During this reporting period, the contractor will have one lane closed in either the Southbound or Northbound direction to perform milling and paving operations. Estimated project completion date is August 2019.

WARREN COUNTY Utility Work on SR-288 (Hennessee Bridge Road) eastbound from LM 1.22 to LM 4.75: Utility work will take place between Chandler Rd. and Old Rock Island Rd. Signage and flaggers will be used. Motorists should use caution. Work will take place from 05/20/2019 through 07/05/2019 between 9 AM to 3 PM.

WARREN COUNTY SR-288 Construction of a concrete bulb-tee beam bridge over Collins River (LM 4.97), including grading, drainage and paving: The bridge is currently reduced to one 10.5-foot lane to allow the contractor to construct the new bridge. While the bridge is down to one lane, traffic will be maintained and controlled by a temporary signal. Motorists should expect periodic delays and use caution in the work zone. RESTRICTIONS: 10.5-foot max width Estimated project completion date is September 2019.

WARREN COUNTY SR-8 over Collins River (LM 8.14) Bridge Repair: The bridge is currently reduced to one 11-ft. lane to allow the contractor to repair the existing bridge. While the bridge is down to one lane, traffic will be maintained and controlled by a temporary signal for the safety of the traveling public. Motorists should expect periodic delays and use caution in the work zone. RESTRICTIONS: 11-ft max width. Estimated project completion date is August 2019.

BRADLEY AND MCMINN COUNTY SR-306 Miscellaneous safety improvements from SR-60 (LM 0) to the Meigs County line (LM 8.58), and on SR-307 from Burnett Road (LM 2.18) to Old Mount Harmony Road (LM 6.07): The contractor will be working on SR-306 and will have intermittent lanes closures as they work. Estimated project completion date is July 2019.

BRADLEY AND MCMINN COUNTY SR-312 (Bradley Co.) Miscellaneous safety improvements from the Hamilton Co. Line (LM 0.00) to Quill Dr. (LM 5.27); US-11 (SR-2) (McMinn Co.) miscellaneous safety improvements from Sanford Rd. (LM 4.05) to Chapel Rd. (LM 12.32): Work on this project is underway. The contractor will work in Bradley County on SR-312 during this report period. There will be intermittent lane closures. Flaggers will assist with traffic control. Estimated project completion date is June 2019.

HAMILTON COUNTY I-75 at I-24 Interchange Reconstruction: Crews will continue surveying and spotting utilities at various locations throughout the interchange. Shoulders may be closed at these locations between 9 AM and 3 PM. The contractor may have temporary nighttime lane closures throughout the project on Sundays through Thursdays between 9PM and 6AM. Additionally, a hauling operation will be taking place requiring a single left lane closure on I-75 SB at MM 2 and a single left lane closure on I-24 EB at MM 185. These lane closures will occur the following nights: 05/23/19 between 9 PM and 6 AM and 05/28/19 to 05/29/19 between 9 PM and 6 AM. Haul trucks will be entering and exiting the interstate at these locations.

HAMILTON COUNTY US-27 (I-124) Widening from I-24/US-27 interchange to north of the Olgiati Bridge over the Tennessee River, including widening the Olgiati Bridge: Work on this project continues with activities occurring on the west side of southbound US-27. Motorists should be alert for construction vehicles entering and exiting the area along the access ramps for east and westbound M. L. King Boulevard. The speed limit for the access ramp is 35 MPH. The 12th Street tie-in ramp to US-27 South has been temporarily closed. This closure will be in place until further notice. Additionally, the southbound ramp from W. Main St.to southbound US-27 has been temporarily closed and will remain so until further notice. Detours are posted. Motorists should pay close attention to the detour signage posted. The speed limit on US-27 in the construction zone remains 45 MPH. Weather permitting; the contractor may implement temporary lane/shoulder closures on weeknights between the hours of 7 PM and 6 AM. At least one lane will remain open in each direction on US-27. Detours for closures will be posted. RESTRICTIONS: I-124 (US-27)Northbound Exit 1C 4th St Off Ramp: No oversize/over dimensional loads; I-124 (US-27) Southbound Exit 1A-B Martin Luther King Blvd. Off Ramp: No oversized/over dimensional loads; I-124 (US-27) Southbound On Ramps from Martin Luther King Blvd.: No oversized/over dimensional loads Estimated project completion date is January 2020.

HAMILTON COUNTY Utility Work on SR-320 (E. Brainerd Road) in both directions from LM .01 to LM 4.09: Rolling lane & shoulder closures for utility work from Grays Drive to the intersection with Lee Hwy. Barrels, signage and flaggers will be present. Motorists should use caution and be aware of moving personnel and equipment as crews transition along SR-320 to Lee Hwy. Work will take place from 05/13/2019 through 05/23/2019 between 9 AM and 3 PM.

HAMILTON COUNTY SR-111 Bridge repair over SR-29 (US-27): During this report period, the contractor will have one lane closed in each direction of SR-111 while performing bridge repairs. The contractor will also be closing one lane in each direction on SR-29 as it passes under SR-111. One lane in each direction shall remain open at all times.  Estimated project completion date is October 2019.

HAMILTON COUNTY SR-148 (Scenic Highway) Slide repair between LM 2.3 (Sanders Road) and LM 2.5 (Linear Lane): During this report period the contractor will have one lane closed while they perform stabilization operations to the slide area. One lane of traffic shall remain open at all times. Estimated project completion date is June 2019.

HAMILTON COUNTY SR-58 Miscellaneous safety improvements at the intersection of SR-312 (Birchwood Pike) (LM 15.70): The contractor will be completing various safety improvements at the intersection of SR-58 & Birchwood Pike Monday thru Saturday between 5 AM and 6 PM. No southbound traffic restrictions will be allowed between 5 AM and 9 AM. No northbound traffic restrictions will be allowed between 3 PM and 6 PM. Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed. Estimated project completion date is May 2019.

MCMINN COUNTY I-75 Resurfacing from north of County Road 267 (MM 55) to the Monroe County line (MM 60): During this reporting period, the contractor will have one lane closed in either the Southbound or Northbound direction from MM 55 to MM 60. The contractor will be working Sunday night thru Thursday night from 7 PM to 6 AM. THP will be on site to assist with traffic control. No lane closures will occur Friday 05/24/19 through Tuesday 05/28/19.  Estimated project completion date is August 2019.

MCMINN COUNTY SR-2 (US-11) Resurfacing from south of Rocky Mount Road (LM 12.18) to north of Haines Road (LM 14.8): Lane closures possible beginning 05/19/19 on SR-2 (US-11) between the hours of 7 PM and 6:30 AM as the contractor begins resurfacing operations. Flaggers will be in the work zone to assist with traffic control. No lane closures will occur between 05/24/19 and 05/27/19. Estimated project completion date is August 2019.

MCMINN COUNTY SR-305 Resurfacing from west of US-11 (SR-2) (LM 2.86) to west of I-75 (LM 5.00): Intermittent lane closures are possible on SR-305 from 8 AM to 5:30 PM during this reporting period as the contractor begins to work on final punch list items. Estimated project completion date is May 2019.

MEIGS COUNTY SR-58 Bridge repair over the Hiwassee River (LM 5.22): During this report period the contractor will have the roadway reduced to one lane and controlled by temporary traffic signals. Additional flaggers will be on site as needed. Estimated project completion date is September 2019.

POLK COUNTY SR-40 (US-64) Repair of bridges over North Potato Creek (LM 26.93): During this reporting period, the contractor will be working to remove the existing bridge decks on both the eastbound and westbound bridges. SR-40 (US-64) is reduced to one lane in each direction for the duration of this work. RESTRICTIONS: No loads wider than 12 ft. are allowed at LM 26.93 eastbound and westbound Estimated project completion date is April 2020.

POLK COUNTY SR-40 (US-64, US-74) Resurfacing from west of SR-30 (LM 9.8) to near Little Caney Creek Bridge (LM 13): During this reporting period, the contractor will have lane closures weather permitting from Monday to Friday between 8 AM and 5:30 PM. Flaggers will be present in the work zone to provide traffic control. Estimated project completion date is June 2019.

POLK COUNTY US-64 (SR-40) Construction of a concrete bulb-tee beam bridge over Branch and TOHA Old Line railroad (LM 24.85), including grading, drainage and paving: The contractor will have intermittent lane closures Monday through Friday between 8 AM and 5:30 PM to install rumble strip and mechanical grooving on the new bridge. Estimated project completion date is May 2019.

RHEA COUNTY SR-30 Grading, drainage and paving from west of New Union Road/White Oak Road (LM 12.6) to Sky Drive (LM 12.9): During this report period, the contractor will be performing grading & drainage operations along SR-30 & New Union Rd. During the initial phase traffic will be maintained on SR-30, White Oak Dr. & New Union Rd. in its current pattern. Flaggers will be on-site to assist with heavy equipment entering & exiting existing roadways. Estimated project completion date is November 2019.

REGION 2 TDOT Maintenance drainage work: There will be possible short-term lane and shoulder closures at various locations in Region 2 in order to clean rock and debris from ditches on an as-needed basis. One lane will be maintained at all times.

REGION 2 TDOT Maintenance pothole repair and pavement patching: There will be possible short-term emergency lane closures at various locations in Region 2 in order to repair potholes and patch pavement on an as-needed basis. Depending on location and severity these repairs may be done during the day or at night. In addition to performing the work, regional Operations crews will also provide traffic control.

REGION 2 On-call guardrail repair and new guardrail installation on various interstate and state routes: The contractor may have short term shoulder and/or lane closures in order to perform guardrail repair. These closures will take place on the interstate nightly from 7 PM to 6 AM Sundays through Thursdays and daily on state routes. At least one travel lane will remain open to traffic at all times on the interstate, and flaggers will be present on state routes during any work that is performed.  Estimated project completion date is June 2019.

REGION 2 Preventative and unscheduled maintenance of Chattanooga SmartWay Intelligent Transportation System: The contractor may have short term shoulder and/or lane closures in order to perform preventative or unscheduled maintenance to the local SmartWay Intelligent Transportation System. Work hours are 9 AM to 3:30 PM. At least one travel lane will remain open to traffic at all times. Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed. Estimated project completion date is October 2019.

REGION 2 On-call cable barrier repairs on various interstate and state routes: The contractor may have short term shoulder closures in order to perform cable rail repair. Both travel lanes will remain open to traffic at all times on the interstate during any work that is performed. Estimated project completion date is December 2019.

REGION 2 On-call pavement marking and the retracing of pavement markings with spray thermoplastic on various Interstate and State Routes: The contractor will be retracing existing pavement markings in Hamilton and Marion Counties. This will include mobile lane closures the following routes in Hamilton County: SR-2, SR-8, SR-17, SR-27, SR-38, SR-58, SR-60, SR-317, SR-319, SR-320, and SR-321; and on the following routes in Marion County: SR-2, SR-15, SR-27, SR-28, SR-150, SR-156, and SR-283. Motorists should be alert to all construction equipment and signage when traveling through the work zone.  Estimated project completion date is June 2020.
