CLAY COUNTY SR-52 slope repair at log mile 12.5:   Roadway still closed pending availability of asphalt. Estimated project completion date is March 2018.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY I-40 West near MM 326, construction of a truck climbing lane, including grading, drainage, construction of retaining walls and paving:   The contractor will require a lane closure to remove portable barrier rail at night between the hours of 7 pm and 6 am with the assistance of a state trooper. Subsequent cold planing will also require lane closures. The right shoulder will be closed for the duration of the project as grade work activities are in progress constructing the truck lane and outside shoulder. Estimated project completion date is June 2018.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY SR-101 (Peavine Road) grading, drainage, and paving from Firetower Road to Westchester/Catoosa Boulevard:   Traffic control and erosion control measures are installed. Storm drain installation, box culvert construction, utility relocation, and grade work activities are in progress. Temporary lane closures and traffic stoppages may be needed to support grade work activities. Motorists should be alert for construction personnel and equipment along SR-101 Peavine Road. Estimated project completion date is November 2020.

CUMBERLAND, ROANE, and WHITE COUNTY miscellaneous safety improvements on various state routes and local roads:   The contractor will be installing permanent signs, guardrail, and other traffic control devices using portable signs and flaggers as needed. Estimated project completion date is May 2018.

DEKALB COUNTY Utility Work northbound from milepost 7 to milepost 15 on SR56 Cookeville Hwy/Congress Blvd:   NB/SB lanes, flaggers present with temporary delays and/or traffic stoppage. Motorist should be aware of construction personnel and equipment along the route. Beginning February 26, 2018 from 6:30 am to 5 pm and estimated completion of May 1, 2018. [UO-2007050552-2018]

 

DEKALB COUNTY Utility Work westbound from milepost 12.5 to milepost 13 on SR96 Center Hill Dam:   WB lane closure to take place on the Center Hill Dam for Lighting Construction. Signage will be in place for both lanes with flagger support. Speed limit will be reduced during work zone times, 7 am - 4 pm, with both lanes reopening after 4 pm. Motorists should use caution and be aware of personnel and equipment in the work zone. Work to begin March 5, 2018 with an estimated completed date of March 31, 2018. [UO-2007050704-2018]

 

FENTRESS COUNTY TDOT Maintenance both directions from milepost 2.0 to milepost 8.0 on SR085:   Roadway is closed due to pavement failure. Estimated completion date is April 2018.

 

JACKSON COUNTY Utility Work both directions from milepost 15.3 to milepost 24.3 on SR85 York Hwy:   Periodic utility work on shoulder from Hwy 53 junction crossing the Overton County line .8 miles. Signage with flagger support will be present to slow traffic, but no lanes will be closed. Work to begin March 2018 through August 2018 weather permitting. [UO-2007050131-2017]

 

JACKSON COUNTY Utility Work both directions from milepost 9.4 to milepost 15.9 on SR135 Dodson Branch Hwy:   Periodic utility work on shoulder at Hwy 53 junction to Northwest of Blackburn Fork Road. JACKSON COUNTY Utility Work northbound from milepost 5.3 to milepost 24.3 on SR53 Granville Hwy/N Grundy Quarles Hwy:   Periodic utility work on shoulder North of Gainesboro, from Antioch Road to Big Branch Rd. JACKSON COUNTY Utility Work northbound from milepost 9.6 to milepost 19.8 on SR56 Jennings Creek Hwy:   Periodic utility work on shoulder from the SR56/SR53 junction to South Fork Rd. JACKSON COUNTY Utility Work westbound from milepost 5.0 to milepost 9.04 on SR262 Gladdice Hwy:   Periodic utility work on shoulder at Hwy 53 junction West to Indian Creek Road. OVERTON COUNTY SR-52 grading, drainage, signals and paving from near Oakley-Allons Road (LM 6.58) to DR-111 (LM 10.23):   J&M is waiting on adequate weather for Rogers Group to complete paving on project. Motorists should use caution and be alert to construction equipment and vehicles within the work zone. The speed limit has been reduced to 45 MPH and is being enforced. Estimated project completion date is July 2018.

PICKETT COUNTY safety improvements on U.S. 127 (SR-28) from SR-295 (LM 3.37) to the KY state line (LM 7.04):   Project has not started yet. Pre-construction conference is scheduled for March 14th, 2018 and work is expected to begin shortly after that time. Estimated project completion date is June 2018.

PUTNAM COUNTY I-40 grading, drainage, construction of two concrete Bulb-Tee beam bridges, signals and paving at Mine Lick Creek Road (MM 283/LM 15.56) and construction of a State Industrial Access Road (Mine Lick Creek Road) serving Project Victor, including grading, drainage and paving:   Work on this project continues. The bridge at Exit 283 is currently open for Phase 1 traffic, allowing one lane of travel in each direction. Phase 2 of the bridge and Tennessee Ave are currently closed with flexible drums and barricades. Texture coating and pressure washing operations on the bridge have been postponed due to weather. One lane of travel in each direction is open on Tennessee Ave through the intersection of Hawkins Crawford/Mine Lick Creek Road. The contractor is currently working on grading operations at the intersection of Lee Seminary Rd (2), Phase 2 of Tennessee Ave., and Highland Park Blvd. Following the completion of grading operations will be the placement of base stone and asphalt binder mixes. All side drains have been installed along the SIA Academy Rd at various driveway and field entrance locations. Contractor began installing base stone on SIA mainline, right side this week. Upcoming work on the SIA Academy Rd will include the installation of 18” RCP at Heartland Ln and Mike Maxwell Rd. This work may result in temporary lane closures along Tennessee Ave and the SIA Academy Rd. Motorists are advised to observe the posted speed limits when entering the work zone and to be alert to construction personnel, equipment and vehicles. Flaggers will be present to assist with traffic control as needed. Temporary pavement markings have been re-striped throughout the project due to fading caused by inclement weather.  Estimated project completion date is April 2018.

PUTNAM COUNTY Old Baxter Road bridge repair over I-40 (L.M. 2.89):   Work on this project continues. The contractor will continue progress of constructing the concrete bridge rail and installing the permanent drain systems on the south end of the bridge. Barrier rail is installed on the inside and outside shoulders of I-40 eastbound and westbound for construction access. Motorists should use extreme caution and be alert to construction equipment and personnel. Estimated project completion date is May 2018.

PUTNAM COUNTY Utility Work northbound from milepost 9 to milepost 12 on SR135 Willow Avenue:   NB lane closure for sewer manholes to be lined. Manholes are in different lanes , so one will be completed before another starts to keep a NB lane of traffic open . The work zone is on Willow between Broad and 1st Street, sign board will be present during work. Work to begin March 15, 2018 (8:00am-3:00 pm) estimated completion March 20, 2018. PUTNAM COUNTY Utility Work westbound from milepost 5.4 to milepost 11.5 on SR290 Willow and Gainesboro Grade:   WB lane, work zone Starting at 12th Street on Highway 135 and ending at Quail Hollow on Highway 290. Temporary delays with flaggers present. Work to begin March 20, 2018 (9:00 am -4:00pm) with estimated completion date March 22, 2018 [UO-2007050728-2018]

 

PUTNAM COUNTY SR-135 resurfacing from south of Jackson Street (LM 9.75) to north of SR-290 (LM 11.64):   Work on this project continues. The contractor has completed mix placement along mainline SR135 and intersecting side roads. The contractor will continue to raise and adjust existing utilities when weather permits the placement of concrete collars. Once utilities are adjusted, the contractor will begin addressing the permanent pavement markings and remaining detail work. The contractor will utilize temporary lane closures in one or both directions during this time. Pavement marking will utilize mobile operations to complete portions of work. Flaggers will be on site to assist with traffic control. Substantial work has been completed on the project and remaining punch list items are to be completed when weather permits. Estimated project completion date is March 2018.

DISTRICT 28

 

CANNON COUNTY Utility Work both directions from milepost 0 to milepost 1.58 on SR001 John Bragg Hwy:   Temporary WB/EB delay with signage with flagger support between Hurst Ln and Bradyville Rd. 2 lanes will remain open. Work to commence on March 22, 2018 at 9 am.

 

COFFEE COUNTY U.S. 41 (S.R.2) resurfacing of Hillsboro Blvd. from east of Hendrixson Drive to the bridge over I-24:   Weather permitting work will continue on the ADA ramps at this time. During the ADA work this project may require intermittent lane closures. Highway surface removal process is scheduled to begin on Sunday night; March 18th. During the removal process the project will require lane closures from 7PM until 6AM Sunday nights thru Friday morning. Motorists should use extreme caution and be alert to construction equipment. Flaggers will be present to assist with traffic control as needed. RESTRICTIONS: State Route 2 both directions in Coffee County - Between SR-53 (WOODBURY HWY.) LT. / BEGIN HILLSBORO RD. and ASHBURY RD., highway surface removal will cause a reduction in lanes from two to one lane at night. This work is expected to be completed by 04/13/2018. Estimated project completion date is May 2018.

GRUNDY COUNTY TDOT Maintenance both directions from milepost 20 to milepost 33.8 on SR056:   Thursday, March 15th through Wednesday, March 21st, 7:30 AM – 3:00 PM. Traffic will be temporarily slowed in order to perform slope mowing.

 

GRUNDY COUNTY TDOT Maintenance both directions from milepost 7 to milepost 10 on SR050:   Thursday, March 15th through Wednesday, March 21st, 7:30 AM – 3:00 PM. Traffic will be temporarily slowed in order to clean ditches.

 

GRUNDY COUNTY SR-56 bridge repair over Pepper Hollow Branch (LM 31.24):   Finish abutment beams formwork and steel reinforcement, pour abutment concrete, continue demo work on existing piers, tentatively setting bridge beams on Friday. RESTRICTIONS: Bridge reduced to one 10' lane, no wide loads. Estimated project completion date is April 2018.

MARION COUNTY TDOT Maintenance both directions from milepost 134 to milepost 134 on I024 I-24:   Thursday, March 15th through Wednesday, March 21st, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM. Traffic will be reduced to 1 lane in order to perform bridge repair.

 

MARION COUNTY TDOT Maintenance both directions from milepost 134.3 to milepost 166.4 on I024 I-24:   Thursday, March 15th through Wednesday, March 21st, 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM. There will be no outside shoulder in order to perform litter pickup.

 

MARION COUNTY TDOT Maintenance westbound from milepost 137 to milepost 137.9 on I024 I-24:   Thursday, March 15th through Wednesday, March 21st, 9:00 AM – 3:30 PM. Traffic will be reduced to 2 lanes in order to remove rocks from shoulders.

 

MARION COUNTY TDOT Maintenance westbound from milepost 139.0 to milepost 140.0 on I24 I-24:   Crews will be removing fallen rock and debris from shoulder. The left lane will be closed. Two lanes will remain open for traffic. Motorists are urged to use caution traveling through this work zone. This work will be performed on weekdays during non-peak hours.

 

MARION COUNTY TDOT Maintenance both directions from milepost 2 to milepost 13 on SR108:   Thursday, March 15th through Wednesday, March 21st,7:00 AM – 3:00 PM. Traffic will be reduced to 1 lane in order to perform brush removal.

 

MARION COUNTY TDOT Maintenance both directions from milepost 3 to milepost 4 on SR134:   Thursday, March 15th through Wednesday, March 21st,7:00 AM – 3:00 PM. Traffic will be reduced to 1 lane in order to clean ditches, drains and tiles.

 

VANBUREN COUNTY SR-111 grading, drainage, and paving from south of Manus Road to south of SR-285 near Double Bridge Road:   This project is complete pending final inspection. Estimated project completion date is March 2018.

WARREN COUNTY SR-288 construction of a concrete Bulb-Tee beam bridge over Collins River (LM 4.97), including grading, drainage and paving:   The bridge is currently reduced to one 12-ft. lane to allow the contractor to construct the new bridge. While the bridge is down to one lane, traffic will be maintained and controlled by a temporary signal for the safety of the traveling public. Motorists should expect periodic delays and use caution in the work zone. RESTRICTIONS: One lane bridge. Lane width 12 feet. Estimated project completion date is October 2018.

HAMILTON COUNTY I-75 North Exit 1 interchange reconfiguration project at mile marker 1:   Work on this project continues. The project will result in a reconfiguration of the exit ramps and will combine both northbound exits (1A & 1B) into one, which will allow drivers to turn both east and west on Ringgold Road at a signalized intersection. Traffic has been shifted onto the newly constructed portion of Camp Jordan Pkwy., and the intersection (I-75 NB off-ramp and SR-8/Camp Jordan Pkwy.) is now controlled by a new traffic signal.  Estimated project completion date is May 2018.

HAMILTON COUNTY U.S. 27 (I-124) widening from I-24/U.S. 27 interchange to north of the Olgiati Bridge over the Tennessee River, including widening the Olgiati Bridge:   Work on this project continues. The contractor has closed the 12th Street tie-in ramp to U.S. 27 South. This closure will be in place until April 2018. Traffic from 12th Street will be detoured to Carter Street and then to Westbound MLK where motorists may access the U.S. 27 South on-ramp. Detours are posted. Motorists should exercise caution when traveling through the construction zone and pay close attention to the detour signage posted. The speed limit has been reduced from 45 MPH to 35 MPH between Main Street and 4th Street on U.S. 27 North. The speed limit on U.S. 27 in the rest of the construction zone remains 45 MPH. Motorists should exercise caution when traveling through the construction zone and pay close attention to the signage posted. Weather permitting, the contractor may implement temporary lane/shoulder closures on weeknights between the hours of 7PM and 6AM. At least one lane will remain open in each direction on U.S. 27. THP will assist with traffic control on the project as necessary. RESTRICTIONS: I 124 (US-27) Northbound Exit 1C 4th Street Off Ramp. No oversize/over-dimensional loads. Width Limit is 11 feet. Estimated project completion date is January 2020.

HAMILTON COUNTY SR-320 (East Brainerd Road) grading, drainage, installation of signals, construction of seven retaining walls and paving from east of Graysville Road to east of Bel-Air Road:   During this report period, the contractor will have intermittent lane closures between 9AM-2PM. This work may affect either direction of East Brainerd Road or side streets from Graysville Road to Bel-Air Road. Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  Estimated project completion date is June 2018.

HAMILTON COUNTY the tunnel cleaning of the McCallie Tunnel on U.S. 11 (US 64, SR-2), the Stringers Ridge Tunnel on U.S. 127 (SR-8), and the Bachman Tubes on U.S. 41 (U.S. 76, SR-8):   The nighttime cleaning operation of McCallie Tunnels, Stringers Ridge Tunnel, and Bachman Tubes occurs between 8PM-6AM. Tunnels will be closed during cleaning, and detours will be marked accordingly as each tunnel is cleaned. This work is scheduled to begin on Wednesday 3/21 at the McCallie tunnels (S.R. 2) & proceed to the Stringer's Ridge tunnel (S.R. 8).  Estimated project completion date is June 2018.

MCMINN COUNTY SR-30, grading, drainage and paving on S.R. 30 from Jackson Street to east of Knight Road in Athens:   Work on this project continues. This project will upgrade SR-30 from a four-lane lane divided roadway to a five-lane urban-type roadway (two lanes in each direction with continuous center turn lane) and include curb, gutter and ADA-compliant sidewalks on both sides throughout the project area. The contractor has implemented the first phase traffic shift. The eastbound lanes are closed to traffic, and all traffic is using the existing westbound lanes, which have been marked and signed as a two-lane undivided highway from east of Jackson Street to east of Knight Road. Crossovers to businesses are reduced, but all businesses remain accessible. There will be lane closures on Park St. at the intersection of S.R. 30 on Thursday, 3/15 and Friday 3/16 to support utility work. Estimated project completion date is October 2019.

MCMINN COUNTY Utility Work eastbound from milepost 13.11 to milepost 13.11 on SR39 Englewood Rd:   Signage will be present for a temporary delay in the EB lane between Old Athens Road and McKenzie Drive for utility work. POLK COUNTY U.S. 64 (SR-40) construction of a concrete bulb-tee beam bridge over Branch and TOHA Old Line railroad (LM 24.85), including grading, drainage and paving:   There will be intermittent lane closures as the contractor works to cut the embankment for the retaining wall. Due to safety concerns at the intersection of Pinecrest Road and US64, Pinecrest Road intersection has been closed. There are posted detour signs for residents to get to their homes on Pinecrest Road. This road will be closed during the duration of the construction of the Retaining Wall on US64.  Estimated project completion date is May 2019.

POLK COUNTY U.S. 64 (SR-40) from mm 13 to mm 17:   TDOT crews are in the process of removing and replacing 15 deteriorating cross drains on U.S. 64 in Polk County between log miles 13 and 17. During this report period, they are scheduled to replace pipes 12-15 out of 15, weather permitting. This work will take place between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. EST on weekdays and will require intermittent lane closures as the work progresses. Estimated project completion date is March 2018.

REGION 2 TDOT Maintenance Pothole Repair and Pavement Patching:   There will be possible short-term emergency lane closures at various locations in Region 2 in order to repair potholes and patch pavement on an as-needed basis. Depending on location and severity these repairs may be done during the day or at night. In addition to performing the work, regional Operations crews will also provide traffic control.

REGION 2 on-call guardrail repair on various interstate and state routes:   The contractor may have short term shoulder and/or lane closures in order to perform guardrail repair. These closures will take place on the interstate nightly from Sunday at 6:00 P.M. to Friday at 6:00 A.M. and daily on State Routes. At least one travel lane will remain open to traffic at all times on the Interstate, and flaggers will be present on State Routes during any work that is performed. Estimated project completion date is June 2018.

REGION 2 preventative and unscheduled maintenance of Chattanooga SmartWay Intelligent Transportation System:   The contractor may have short term shoulder and/or lane closures in order to perform preventative or unscheduled maintenance to the local SmartWay I.T.S. system. Work hours are 9AM to 3:30PM. At least one travel lane will remain open to traffic at all times. Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed. Estimated project completion date is October 2019.

REGION 2 sweeping and drain cleaning on various interstate and state routes:   There will be mobile lane closures supporting a sweeping operation along regional interstates and highways. This activity happens Sunday - Thursday (8PM - 6AM). Additionally, the drain cleaning operation will begin Sunday night, 3/18/18 on I-75, inside lane, and will proceed through Thursday. I-75 (M.M. 0.00 through M.M.10.0 ) will be subject to lane closures. This drain cleaning will be a continuous operation through the next few months until regional interstate & selected state routes are complete. Estimated project completion date is February 2019.

HAMILTON COUNTY - CNP230: I 124 (US-27) Northbound Exit 1C 4th Street Off Ramp. No oversize/over-dimensional loads. Width Limit is 11 feet.

In 2016, the Tennessee Department of Transportation lost three workers in the line of duty. All three were struck by passing motorists.
