Commercial Driver License Administrative Account Review
Following the executive order of President Trump to strengthen Commercial Driver’s License Security for Safer Commercial Motor Vehicle Operations, the Department of Safety and Homeland Security conducted a review of Tennessee Commercial Driver License (CDL) records to ensure all drivers have the required proof of U.S. Citizenship or proof of Lawful Permanent Residency on file. Proof of either U.S. Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Residency is also required to be on file according to Tennessee state law, T.C.A. § 55-50-407(d).
This review identified Tennessee CDL holders who did not have the proper proof of U.S. Citizenship or proof of Lawful Permanent Residency on file. These CDL holders were notified by mail that they will need to present acceptable proof of U.S. Citizenship or proof of Lawful Permanent Residency and the letter they received in person at one of Tennessee's Full Service or Express Drivers Services Centers no later than April 6, 2026. CDL holders who receive the letter but fail to provide the required documents by April 6, 2026, will be downgraded to a non-commercial driver license until proof is provided.
