On Thanksgiving Day of 2018 while in Florida I received a call from my mother that my 41 year old middle brother had passed away due to an overdose. My younger brother was able to obtain an autopsy report which showed my brother had died from a combination of hydrocodone, fentanyl, promethazine, trazadone and gabapentin.

As my younger brother and I began to look farther into this we found that we had other family members involved with opioid use as well. So this has been a tough time for the both of us.

But my younger brother and I have a good story as well. My youngest brother’s wife’s sister was addicted to opioids and was spinning out of control. She made the decision to seek help, and we just celebrated her one year of sobriety. She is a beautiful young lady who is doing well now.
