Moore County Stories

During my career in law enforcement, I’ve contacted many people from all walks of life crippled by effects of opioids. I’ve seen successful people with thriving businesses lose everything trying to satisfy their fix and people living in poverty selling an entire prescription, which was easily obtained, to help pay their bills. Obtaining opioids seems to be as easy for some as going to the local gas station. To see loving parents put their opioid addiction before the needs of their children is heartbreaking. It’s equally as heartbreaking to see young adults and teenagers using opioids recreationally and openly. We have to find better ways to treat injuries, recover from surgeries and cope with pain instead of writing a prescription for long term opioid use, causing addiction. But I’ve also seen successes. One person in particular spent months in jail, attended rehab and has been able to rebuild his business and better his family. There is hope!
