I believe the biggest killer of Americans under the age of 50 is drug overdose. As the Chief Operating Officer for an addiction recovery residential facility, I see first-hand the effects of opioid use in this country. It is killing people and robbing families of their fathers, mothers and children, but it goes beyond that. Doctors are told one thing by pharmaceutical companies, and insurance companies are paying for them. Drugs obtained illegally on the street are being laced with enough Fentanyl to kill cities of people. While the death toll continues to rise, the success rates of individuals in recovery remain the same dismal percentages as they have been for decades.
