I was addicted to heroin during the 1970s but would also take pain pills if I didn’t have access to any heroin. Thankfully, I have now been sober for 37 years.

Since I have been clean, this opioid crisis has had a profound impact on so many families, including my own. There were times I thought I was having a heart attack, but it was the stress of dealing with people, mainly family, who were being controlling and manipulative.  I had to finally say enough and remove them from my home. I love them, but I knew I didn’t need to be surrounded by addicts. Sadly, I remember a time when I acted just like them and probably worse, but I just didn’t allow any of them to see me in my dark world of addiction.

I thank God they are now clean and prayerfully will stay clean as long as they stick with God and attend meetings regularly. It worked for me, and I am very thankful to God and all those who helped me during my addiction.
