TDOC Take One Training Begins Across The State

JACKSON -  The Take One Program, a collaboration between faith-based and nonprofit organizations and the Tennessee Department of Correction, will host a training workshop for mentors on June 25 in Jackson.  Take One helps offenders leaving correctional facilities to successfully re-enter society through mentorship and structured community support.

An estimated 90% of incarcerated offenders will eventually be released back into our communities.  The TDOC not only operates safe and secure prisons and provides effective community supervision, but also enhances public safety by helping prepare offenders for re-entry to the community.  “Take One is an opportunity for citizens to take an active role in enhancing public safety in Tennessee by helping offenders find their way to new, productive and crime-free lives,” Commissioner Derrick Schofield said.  This program creates a network of organizations that will provide offenders with a variety of supportive services to assist them during their first year of release. 

The TDOC kicked off the Take One Program through a series of prayer breakfast events across the state.  Now, interested faith-based organizations have a chance to learn more about the program and get the training they need to be successful.
