Weekly Construction Report for Parts of East and Middle Tennessee for June 12 - June 18, 2014

BRADLEY COUNTY, I-75 construction of a concrete Bulb-Tee Beam Bridge, including grading, drainage and paving at the Exit 20 interchange (U.S. 64 Bypass East, U.S. 74 East, SR-311, APD-40) (LM 4.86) in Cleveland:  Work continues on this project.  On Tuesday, June 17, 2014 between 8PM and 6AM, the contractor will shift I-75 North traffic onto the new off ramp to APD-40 and to the new on ramp from APD-40 to I-75 North.  The contractor will be working on clearing and drainage and doing bridge work during this report period.  Any work requiring interstate lane closures is limited to Sunday through Thursday nights between 7PM - 6AM.  Signs will be posted and flaggers will assist with traffic control if needed.  THP will assist with traffic control as necessary during interstate lane closures.  Estimated project completion date is November 2015. 

BRADLEY COUNTY, Benton Pike, Durkee Road, and Michigan Avenue, grading, drainage, and paving on a State Industrial Access route serving the Whirlpool Corporation:  The contractor continues work on this project at the Whirlpool Corporation plant.  Traffic will be shifted at the entrance to Durkee Road and U.S. 64 due to the contractor working on the concrete paving at this intersection from Friday, June 13, 2014 through Sunday, June 15, 2014.  There will be periodic lane closures on Benton Pike and Durkee Road.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  Estimated project completion date is October 2014. 

BRADLEY, MCMINN and POLK COUNTIES, miscellaneous safety improvements on the following routes: SR-74 from the Georgia State line to SR-313; SR-313 from SR-74 to Cedar Springs Road; Lamontville Road from Bethel Spring Road to I-75; and on Benton Station Road from Mull Road to SR 33:  There will be intermediate flagging operations on SR-313, Benton Pike and Lamontville Road as the contractor installs new signs. There will be intermittent lane closures as the contractor is installing permanent signs and working on striping the roadway.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  Estimated project completion date is June 2014. 

CANNON / WARREN COUNTY, U.S. 70S (SR-1) grading, drainage, and construction of a concrete I beam bridge from near SR-281 in Cannon County to near SR-287 in Warren County:  The majority of the work has been completed on this project.  However, all motorists should continue to use caution and be alert to construction equipment and vehicles within the work zone.  Estimated project completion date is June 2014. 

CANNON / WARREN COUNTY, U.S. 70S (SR-1) paving from near SR-281 in Cannon County to Spring Valley Road in McMinnville, Warren County:  Work continues on this project.  Paving operations will be ongoing for the next several months (including weekends).  Stop signs will be added on all side roads and county roads while milling and paving operations continue on the mainline.  All motorists should use extreme caution and be alert to construction equipment and vehicles on the project.  Flaggers may be present on side roads.  No interruption of traffic is expected.  Estimated project completion date is September 2014. 

COFFEE COUNTY, I-24 grading, drainage and paving at the eastbound and westbound weigh stations from MM 117-115.5:  The contractor will have lane closures on I-24 West on Monday June 16 – Wednesday, June 18, 2014 from 6PM – 6AM to reinstall barrier rail that had been removed to accommodate the Bonnaroo Festival.  THP will assist with traffic control as necessary during interstate lane closures and one lane will remain open at all times.  Following barrier rail installation, shoulder closures will once again go into effect in this area.  Estimated project completion date is November 2014. 

COFFEE and FRANKLIN COUNTIES - miscellaneous safety improvements on various state and local routes:  During this report period, the contractor will have lane closures on SR-15 in both directions from LM 23.70 to 28.30 to install guardrail.  At least one travel lane will remain open to traffic at all times.  Flaggers will assist with traffic if necessary.  Estimated completion date is June 2014. 

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, SR-462 new construction from U.S. 70 (SR-1) to U.S. 70N (SR-1), including grading, drainage and paving:  Work continues on this project.  Motorists should be alert for construction vehicles and equipment that may be entering or leaving the jobsite.  There may be temporary lane closures with flagging on each end of the job to allow installation of traffic signals, pavement markings and signs (SR-24 near LM 15.0 and SR-1 Sparta Highway near LM 11.3).  Motorists should be aware that Northside Drive has been reopened to thru traffic on its new alignment.  Estimated project completion date is June 2014. 

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, U.S. 127 (SR-28) bridge repair over Obed River (LM 17.50):  Construction signs, portable barrier rail, arrowboards and barrels have been installed to reduce traffic from two lanes to one lane on both the northbound and southbound bridges.  Traffic on each bridge has been switched to the opposite lane to allow construction activities to continue.  Estimated project completion date is November 2014. 

DeKALB COUNTY, SR-26 (U.S. 70) construction of a welded steel plate girder bridge and three retaining walls over the Caney Fork River and Sligo Road (LM 24.58):  This bridge replacement project is underway.  During construction, the current bridge over the river will remain open to traffic until the new structure is constructed and able to carry traffic.  The contractor may have short lane closures to perform various operations on an as-needed basis.  Flaggers will be on site to assist with traffic control.  Estimated project completion date is June 2016. 

DeKALB, PUTNAM, WARREN COUNTIES, Miscellaneous safety improvements on Austin Bottom Road/Cookeville Boatdock Road/Baxter Road from Austin Lake Road/Sunny Point Road in DeKalb County to I-40 in Putnam County; miscellaneous safety improvements at the intersection of Old Smithville Road and Pike Hill Road (LM 0.36):  The contractor may have short lane closures to perform various operations on an as-needed basis.  Flaggers and THP will be on site to help with traffic control as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is July 2014. 

HAMILTON COUNTY, U.S. 27 (SR-29) reconstruction project from Manufacturers Road (Olgiati Bridge over the Tennessee River) to U.S. 127 (SR-8, Signal Mountain Road/Boulevard):  Weather permitting, the contractor may have lane closures throughout the project area on weeknights to perform road work.  They will also be working on retaining walls and bridges throughout the project area.  During nighttime work, at least one lane will remain open in each direction.  During this report period, the contractor may have a daytime road closure on E. Elmwood Dr. and nighttime lane closure on Dayton Blvd. to set girders for the bridge over E. Elmwood Dr.  All work is weather permitting.  If this work is cancelled due to weather, it will be rescheduled to take place on the next available day.  THP will assist with traffic control on the project as necessary.  THP will assist with traffic control on the project as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is February 2015. 

HAMILTON COUNTY, SR-58 resurfacing from Lakewood Acres Road (LM. 9.20) to Greenwood Road (LM 14.68):  Work on this continues.  Milling and paving operations are limited to Sunday through Thursday nights between 7PM and 6AM.  There will be temporary lane closures as needed on this project.  At least one lane in each direction will remain open at all times.  Estimated completion date is July 2014. 

HAMILTON COUNTY, construction of a State Industrial Access route serving Volkswagen Group of America, including grading, drainage and paving:  Work on this project continues.  The contractor is in the process of clearing and taking care of environmental measures in order to start on road and drainage.  Traffic will not be impacted at this time therefore, no lane closures are needed.  Estimated project completion date is September 2014. 

JACKSON COUNTY, SR-262 bridge repair over Cumberland River (LM 7.56):  Work continues on this project.  Temporary traffic signals have been removed, and the bridge is open to two lanes of traffic.  The contractor will be doing some minor work to complete the project in the next few weeks.  There may be shoulder closures as the result of this work.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is June 2014. 

JACKSON COUNTY, SR-85 construction of small drainage structure at LM 11.27:  Installation of construction signs is underway, and work will begin soon on this project.  SR-85 is scheduled to be closed at this site on June 1, 2014.  A detour will be in place.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is August 2014. 

JACKSON COUNTY, SR-53 resurfacing (thin-mix overlay) from SR-56 (LM 14.22) to the bridge over Roaring River (LM 15.72); SR-56 resurfacing (thin-mix overlay) from north of Old Creek Road (LM 10.02) to SR-53 (LM 10.94)  bridge repair over Cumberland River (LM 7.56):  Work continues on this project.  Milling and paving operations are underway.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is June 2014. 

MARION and HAMILTON COUNTIES, I-24 resurfacing project from the end of Tennessee River Bridge at Nickajack Lake in Marion County near mile marker 161 extending through Hamilton County to the Georgia State Line near mile marker 167, including bridge deck repair:  Work will resume on this project on the evening of Monday, June 16.  During this report period, the contractor will be performing nighttime milling and paving operations on both sides of the interstate throughout the project area.  Milling and paving operations requiring interstate lane closures are limited to Sunday through Thursday nights between 9PM – 6AM EDT.  THP will assist with traffic control as necessary during interstate lane closures.  Estimated project completion date is September 2014. 

MARION COUNTY, U.S. 41 (U.S. 64, U.S. 72, SR-2) replacement of the truss bridge over the Tennessee River at Nickajack Lake (LM 21.14) with a multi-span steel plate girder bridge:  The truss bridge is now closed to all through traffic until the new adjacent bridge currently under construction is completed.  A detour route that adds an additional 1.5 miles to the current route is posted.  Estimated date to have the bridge open to traffic is late summer 2014, with the final completion of the project by the end of the year. 

McMINN COUNTY, SR-30 widening project, including grading, drainage, paving, construction of a concrete box beam bridge and retaining wall from County Road 609 to the 4-lane section in Etowah:  The contractor is moving dirt in this phase of the project.  Traffic is now detoured onto the new traffic lanes starting from east of County Road 609 and detouring back onto the old SR-30 at County Road 623.  Drivers are urged to use caution and pay attention to construction signs in this area.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  Estimated project completion is November 2014. 

McMINN COUNTY, resurfacing on various city streets in Athens:  Work continues on this project.  The contractor will be paving multiple city streets, and drivers need to be alert to workers in the area.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  Estimated project completion date is June 2014. 

MEIGS COUNTY, SR-30 relocation beginning east of the Tennessee River to west of SR-58:  Work on this project is substantially complete.  There will be few, if any, traffic disruptions from here on out until punchlist work is complete.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  Estimated project completion is June 2014. 

POLK COUNTY, U.S. 64 (SR-40) resurfacing from east of Main St. (LM 26) to the North Carolina State Line (LM 30.02):  Work continues on this project.  During this work, there will be intermittent lane closures in both directions on U.S. 64.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  Drivers are urged to use caution and pay attention to construction signs in this area.  Estimated project completion is July 2014.

PUTNAM COUNTY, I-40 resurfacing project from east of SR-56 (Exit 280) to near east of SR-136 (MM 287, LM 19.65), including bridge expansion joint repair:  Work continues on this project.  This is a nighttime paving operation and work will occur on both sides of the interstate.  Milling and paving operations requiring lane closures will be limited to Sunday through Thursday nights between 9PM – 6AM.  The only exception to this time restriction will be for bridge expansion joint repairs, which are not scheduled at this time.  One lane will remain open to traffic at all times during paving operations.  THP will assist with traffic control as necessary during interstate lane closures.  Estimated project completion is July 2014. 

VAN BUREN COUNTY, SR-111 grading, drainage, and paving from south of Manus Road to south of SR-285 near Double Bridge Road:  Work continues on this project.  Utilities are currently being installed while work is progressing on pipe replacements and extensions at various locations.  Brush burning continues, and grading activities are expected to begin within the next two weeks.  Flaggers will be present during progression of work.  Motorists should use caution and be alert to construction equipment and vehicles within the work zone. The speed limit has been reduced to 45 MPH and is being enforced.  Estimated project completion date is November 2015. 

WARREN COUNTY, SR-56; repair of bridge over Mountain Creek (LM 22.47):  The bridge currently is down to only one lane of traffic, and it is being maintained and controlled by a temporary signal for the safety of the traveling public.  The contractor is working on completing Phase 2 and pouring the parapet wall.  Flaggers will be present to assist traffic during these operations.  Motorists should expect delays up to 6 minutes.  Project completion date is June 2014. 

WHITE COUNTY, SR-111 resurfacing from north of SR-135 (LM 13.52) to north of SR-136 (LM 17.43):  The contractor may have short term lane closures to perform various operations on an as-needed basis.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as necessary.  Project completion date is August 2014.
