SR-153 Ramp in Hamilton County to be Closed for Repaving

Tuesday, April 01, 2014 | 05:12am

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) operations crews will close the State Route 153 ramp at Access Road/Lake Resort Drive for repaving and restriping beginning at 5:00 a.m. EDT on Wednesday, April 2, 2014.  The ramp is expected to reopen to traffic by 3:00 p.m. EDT on Wednesday afternoon.  Detours will be posted.

In February, an emergency repair project was completed that addressed pavement and slope failures on the ramp.  During the project, TDOT contract crews excavated and rebuilt the entire slope and roadway and corrected drainage issues.  Once the work was completed, TDOT operations crews placed temporary pavement on the newly repaired portion of the ramp with the plan to return at a later date to place permanent pavement.  Now that the weather has warmed up and our crews are able to obtain hot mix asphalt, they will repave the entire ramp.  This will result in a much smoother ride for motorists using the ramp.

For travel information visit the TDOT SmartWay web site at www.tn.gov/tdot/tdotsmartway or call 5 1 1.  You can also receive traffic alerts via TDOT’s multiple Twitter feeds, including statewide traffic tweets @TN511 or Chattanooga area alerts @Chattanooga511.

Android and iPhone users can download TDOT’s SmartWay Mobile App to assist them in navigating Tennessee highways.  The app provides up-to-the-minute customized traffic information and enables the user to access TDOT’s SmartWay cameras, messages displayed on overhead Dynamic Message Signs, and information on construction related lane closures and incidents on interstates and state routes.  The TDOT SmartWay App is free and available for download in the Apple App Store and Play Store for Android.

As always, drivers are reminded to use all motorist information tools wisely and Know Before You Go! by checking travel conditions before leaving for their destination.  Drivers should never tweet, text or talk on a cell phone while behind the wheel.
