JEFFERSON/COCKE COUNTY, I-40 East and West between Mile Markers 420 and 432: On Tuesday, April 1, 2014, and Thursday, April 3, 2014 motorists should be alert for rolling roadblocks in this area to occur between the hours of 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. for work related to bridge repairs at Mile Marker 425. Motorists should be alert for sudden stops, slow moving or stopped conditions; reduce speed and use extreme caution approaching this area.
JEFFERSON COUNTY, I-40 East and West Bridge over the French Broad River near Mile Marker 425: I-40 East and West across the bridge over Douglas Lake near Mile Marker 425 is reduced to one lane in each direction as crews continue this bridge rehabilitation project. These lane reductions will be in place around the clock for approximately two years. Motorists should be alert for lane shifts and narrowed lanes in this area. Traffic loads in excess of 12 feet in width will be prohibited and must follow a detour route. The wide load detour will be US 25/SR 9 between Exits 424 and 432. Motorists should expect potential delays in this area during peak travel times. Local traffic should consider using US 25/SR 9 as an alternate route during peak travel periods. I-81 and I-26 may be used as an alternate route for I-40 “thru traffic” to by-pass this project during peak travel periods. JEFFERSON COUNTY, I-81 from the I-40 Interchange to the Hamblen County Line: Motorists should be alert for possible daily shoulder closures through this area during daylight hours as crews perform clearing operations through this resurfacing project. Lane closures for resurfacing will begin on Sunday, April 6, 2014, and occur nightly on Sundays through Thursdays between the hours of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. the following morning. KNOX COUNTY, I-640 East near Mile Marker 3.5: I-640 East is reduced from three lanes to two in this area around the clock for bridge repairs. Motorists should expect potential delays and be alert for slowed traffic approaching this area. I-40 thru traffic should remain on I-40 and avoid using the I-640 by-pass during this time. Motorists on I-40 wishing to access I-75 North should considering using I-275 North to avoid this construction zone.
KNOX COUNTY, I-75/275 South Ramp to I-640 East: The ramp from I-75/275 South to I-640 East is closed to traffic as crews perform ramp and bridge repairs. This closure will remain in effect for weeks around the clock until repairs are complete. Motorists traveling I-75 South wishing to access I-640 East should follow I-275 South to I-40 East back to I-640. Motorists should be alert for slowed traffic approaching this area and use extreme caution.
KNOX COUNTY, I-40 East and West between Mile Markers 390 and 392 near Rutledge Pike: Beginning Sunday, March 30, 2014 through Thursday, April 3, 2014 motorists should be alert for lane closures and lane shifts in this area around the clock as crews perform bridge repairs. Motorists should be alert for potential delays during morning and afternoon rush hour and adjust travel times accordingly. SULLIVAN COUNTY, US 11E/SR 34 at US 19E/SR 37: A temporary detour of SR 37/US19E is in place at the intersection of SR 34/US 11E. Traffic signals have been installed and are operational at the intersection of SR34/37 and SR37/44. The detour is estimated to be in place until August 2014. Motorists should be alert for changed conditions and follow signed detours. Motorists should be alert for workers and equipment present and use extreme caution through this bridge construction and intersection reconstruction project.

UNION COUNTY, Existing SR 33 Bridge over Clinch River (Norris Lake) Weight Restrictions: The existing State Route 33 Bridge over Norris Lake is posted with weight limit restrictions and is being strictly enforced. Weight restrictions are: 5 axle vehicles are 35 tons; 3 or 4 axle vehicle is 22 tons; 2 axle vehicles are 20 tons. VEHICLES WEIGHING IN EXCESS OF THE RESTRICTED WEIGHTS WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO CROSS THE BRIDGE AND MUST FOLLOW A DETOUR ROUTE.
