NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission will hold a one-day meeting on Thursday, March 27 at the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency’s Ray Bell Building beginning at 9 a.m.

The March meeting will be the first under the direction of the new TFWC officers that were elected at the TFWC’s February meeting. Jeffrey Griggs, of Lexington, assumes the role of chairman. Jim Bledsoe, of Jamestown, is serving as vice chairman. Harold Cannon, of Lenior City, is the new secretary.

Tennessee was the host of the recently-held mid-winter technical meetings for the Mississippi Flyway Council. A summary of the meeting will be provided to the commission. In addition, Joe Benedict, the TWRA’s recently-appointed Statewide Waterfowl Program Coordinator, will be introduced to the commission.

TWRA Assistant Director Barry Sumners will provide an update on the Agency’s Strategic plan. The commission received a copy of the proposed plan last month. The TWRA is asking for the commission’s approval to retire the previous plan and begin the implementation of the new one.

A representative of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Foundation, will brief the commission on the upcoming 2014 Governor’s One-Shot Turkey Hunt and country music concert. The hunt and related activities are scheduled for March 28-29.

The public is invited to attend both committee meeting and formal commission meeting.
