Major Weekend Closures Planned for I-40/I-240 Interchange Project

Interstate Closures Continue for Beam Installation

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Tennessee Department of Transportation will be closing sections of the interstate system as crews continue to work on the new east and westbound flyovers. This work is part of the I-40/I-240 interchange improvement project. The closures are necessary as crews install beams over existing roadways including Sam Cooper Boulevard and the I-240 westbound flyover.

Saturday, November 8 at 5:00 a.m. through Sunday, November 9, 2014 at 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, November 15 at 5:00 a.m. through Sunday, November 16, 2014 at 8:00 p.m.:

The following will be CLOSED (detours provided):

  • East and westbound Sam Cooper Boulevard
  • I-240 eastbound connecting to I-40 westbound, including Exit 12C to go westbound Sam Cooper from westbound I-240
  • I-240 westbound (flyover) towards Jackson, MS from I-40 westbound

Traffic will be encouraged to use SR 385 as an alternate route. Detour maps and information will be provided on the project web site. http://www.tdot.state.tn.us/i40-240memphis/

The work is weather dependent.  Should inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances prevent this work from occurring as scheduled, it will be rescheduled.
