NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission will meet Sept. 19-20 (Thursday-Friday) in Nashville with voting on the 2014 state’s commercial fishing proclamations among the items on this month’s agenda.

Final changes to the commercial fishing proclamation will be presented to the commission for any discussion and final approval. The initial recommendations were presented at the August TFWC meeting held in Knoxville as well as those requested by the Commercial Fishing Advisory Committee.

The 2013 dove hunting season is underway in the state and a report on the opening of the season will be given. Details on all public dove hunting opportunities will be a part of the report.

An update on boating accident statistics for the year will be given by Glenn Moates, Boating and Law Enforcement Division Assistant Chief.

The commission established a limited sandhill crane hunting season for a designated area in East Tennessee at its August meeting. The Birchwood Community Center in north Hamilton County will host the 2013 permit drawing on Oct. 12. Details of the drawing will be provided.

TWRA Executive Director Ed Carter will make presentations to Ducks Unlimited (DU) and the Maddox Foundation. Over the past three years, DU and the Maddox Foundation have been substantial contributors to the TWRA and the duck hunters of Middle Tennessee. Working through the competitive grant process DU and the Maddox Foundation have provided the Old Hickory Wildlife Management Area and Haynes Bottom Wildlife Management Area with needed funding for equipment.

Also, presentations will be made to the TWRA Wildlife Biologist of the Year and Wildlife Technician of the Year.

The committee meetings will be held on Thursday beginning at 1 p.m. while the formal commission meeting starts Friday at 9 a.m.
