Upper Cumberland State Veterans Cemetery Steering Committee to Discuss Ongoing Local Efforts

NASHVILLE – The Upper Cumberland State Veterans Cemetery Steering Committee will meet on Friday August 23 at 10:00 a.m. (CDT) at the Old Smith County Courthouse in Carthage to discuss ongoing efforts to review potential sites, raise local awareness about the proposed Upper Cumberland State Veterans Cemetery and raise local funding as well as donations for land acquisition.

Federal funding is used to design and construct state Veteran cemeteries, but only state and local funding can be used for land acquisition.  The proposed Upper Cumberland State Veterans Cemetery would serve more than 25,000 Veterans in Clay, Cumberland, DeKalb, Fentress, Jackson, Macon, Overton, Pickett, Putnam, Smith, Trousdale, Van Buren, Warren and White Counties.
