Jeffery Carter Captured

PIKEVILLE – An inmate who walked away from a work detail in Bledsoe County Sunday night is now back in Tennessee Department of Correction custody.

Jeffery Lynn Carter, 32, was apprehended Wednesday evening at approximately 5:30p.m. (CST) at a house in Davidson County.  He absconded from a minimum-custody work detail on the prison farm.

TDOC Agents along with the U.S. Marshal’s Middle Tennessee Fugitive Task Force, Metropolitan Nashville Police, TBI, THP and the Bledsoe County Sheriff’s Department combined efforts and resources to search for and subsequently capture Jeffrey Carter. He was taken into custody, without incident, inside a house in Madison, TN.

Carter was serving a 21-year prison sentence for convictions in Davidson County of aggravated robbery and attempted aggravated robbery.  His sentence was scheduled to expire in 2018.

Carter has been transported to the Riverbend Maximum Security Institution and could face an additional five years in prison. Details of his escape are still under investigation at this time. Charges could be placed against possible accomplices.
