East Tennessee Construction Report for July 3-10, 2013

There will be no temporary lane closures on Interstates or State Routes beginning at 6 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2013 through 6 a.m. Monday, July 8, 2013 due to the 4th of July holiday.  Motorists should be alert for some lane closures left in place through various bridge construction projects for safety reasons.


BLOUNT COUNTY, SR 33 W. Broadway Avenue between S. Cedar Street and Cunningham Street: Motorists should be alert for daily lane closures and lane shifts in this area between the hours of 7 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. through this widening project.  This work is expected to continue through the last week of June 2013.  Motorists should be alert for workers present, expect potential delays and use extreme caution through this area.

BLOUNT COUNTY, US 411/ SR 35 between S. Washington Street and Wilcox Street: Motorists should be alert for changing conditions in this area. SR 35 Eastbound is closed to thru traffic and detoured around this widening project. Eastbound motorists should follow posted detour route.  SR 35 Westbound will remain open and motorists should be alert for possible traffic shifts in this direction.  Motorists should be alert for workers present and use extreme caution in this area.

BLOUNT COUNTY, SR 335 at Morganton Road: Motorists should be alert for possible daily lane closures in this area between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. as crews perform work at this intersection improvement project.  Motorists should be alert for workers present and use extreme caution in this area.

BLOUNT COUNTY, SR 35 (Hall Road) Southbound between West Stephenson Street and Joule Street: Motorists should be alert for intermittent daily lane closures between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. as crews perform work to install a turn lane at this location.  Motorists should be alert for workers present, expect potential delays and use extreme caution in this area.

CARTER COUNTY, SR 362 Gap Creek Road between SR 361 and Tester Road: Gap Creek Road (SR 362) is closed to thru traffic and detoured for approximately one year as crews complete roadway construction widening in this area.  Motorists should follow signed detour route and adjust travel times accordingly. Motorists should be alert for changed conditions and use extreme caution in this area.

CLAIBORNE COUNTY, US 25E/SR32 between Anders Road and the Powell River Bridge: Motorists should be alert for possible nightly lane closures through this resurfacing project between the hours of 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. the following morning.  Motorists should be alert for workers present and use extreme caution in this area.

COCKE COUNTY, I-40 East near Mile Marker 436: On Monday, July 8, 2013, motorists should be alert for a possible lane closure during daylight hours as crews perform guardrail repairs.  Motorists should be alert for workers present and use extreme caution in this area.

COCKE COUNTY, US 25/70/SR 9 Bridge over the French Broad River at Log Mile 21.6: The historic Wolf Creek Bridge on US 25/70/SR 9 over the French Broad River is closed to thru traffic as crews perform work on this bridge rehabilitation project. The bridge will be closed thru March of 2014. Separate signed detours will be in place for passenger and commercial vehicles.  Motorists should adjust travel times accordingly and use caution through this area. GRAINGER COUNTY, US 25E/SR 32 between SR 1 and Mountain View Drive: Motorists should be alert for possible lane closures daily through this resurfacing project. Motorists should be alert for workers and equipment present and use extreme caution in this area

GREENE COUNTY, SR 34/US 11E at SR 351: Motorists should be alert for possible lane closures through this intersection improvement project. Motorists should be alert for workers and equipment present and use extreme caution in this area.

HAMBLEN COUNTY, I-81 North and South near Exit 8:  Motorists should be alert for possible lane closures and rolling roadblocks approaching this area between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. as crews perform overhead bridge work in this area. Motorists should be alert for slow moving traffic and use extreme caution approaching this area.

HAMBLEN COUNTY, SR 32/US 25E near I-81 Interchange: Motorists should be alert for changing traffic patterns through this project.  Motorists should be alert for possible lane closures and flag persons directing traffic at various times through this project.  Motorists should be alert for workers present and use extreme caution in this area.

HAMBLEN COUNTY, SR 32/US 25E near College Park Drive:  Motorists should be alert for possible lane closures at various times and changing conditions through this project.  Motorists should be alert for workers present and use extreme caution in this area.

HAWKINS COUNTY, SR 346 between Millers Woods Road and the Holston River Bridge: Motorists should be alert for possible lane closures daily through this resurfacing project. Motorists should be alert for workers and equipment present and use extreme caution in this area.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, I-40 East and West between Mile Markers 410 and 416: Motorists should be alert for possible lane closures nightly on Sundays through Thursdays between the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. the following morning through this resurfacing project. Motorists should be alert for workers present and use extreme caution in this area.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, US 25W/SR 9 Swann’s Bridge over Douglas Lake : Motorists should be alert for possible temporary lane closures during daylight hours at various times as crews off load barges in this area.  Motorists should be alert for flag persons present and use caution in this area.

KNOX COUNTY, I-75 North Ramp to Callahan Drive (Exit 110): Motorists should be alert for lane closures on this ramp as crews perform ramp widening.  Motorists should be alert for lane shifts, narrowed lanes and use extreme caution in this area.

KNOX COUNTY, US 11/SR 1 Kingston Pike between North Peters Road and North Winston Road: Motorists should be alert for possible nightly lane closures through this resurfacing project between the hours of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. the following morning Sundays through Thursdays.  Motorists should be alert for workers present and use extreme caution in this area.

KNOX COUNTY, SR 62 (Oak Ridge Hwy. /Western Ave.) between Schaad Road and Copper Kettle Road: Motorists should be alert for temporary lane closures at various times throughout this widening project.  Motorists traveling in this area should be alert for workers and equipment present and be alert for changing traffic conditions, detours, traffic shifts and use caution through this area. Nickel Road at Western Avenue is closed to thru traffic.  Motorists which normally use Nickel Road to access Western Avenue should follow Short Road. The following roads are currently closed to thru traffic for construction: John May Road at Western Avenue; South Hinton Road between Western Avenue and Third Creek Road; Jimmy Carter Road at Western Avenue and Beaver Ridge Road at Western Avenue.  A short section of Ball Camp Pike between Western Avenue and Goldenrod Street is also closed for construction.  Motorists should be alert for changing conditions and follow signed detour routes. KNOX COUNTY, US 441/SR 33 Henley Bridge over Tennessee River in Downtown Knoxville: The Henley Bridge is closed to traffic for bridge rehabilitation.  Motorists should follow signed detour route using James White Parkway.  For updated project information, go to http://www.tdot.state.tn.us/henley/

KNOX COUNTY, SR 158 Neyland Drive approaching the Henley Bridge: Motorists should be alert for possible temporary lane closures on weekdays between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. through this area as crews perform overhead bridge work.  Motorists should be alert for workers present and use extreme caution in this area. . KNOX COUNTY, SR 131 Emory Road between Gill Road and Clinton Highway: Motorists should be alert for possible temporary lane closures with flagging personnel present at various times through this widening project for bridge construction, utility and equipment crossings.  Motorists should be alert for workers present and use extreme caution in this area.

KNOX COUNTY, SR 169 Middlebrook Pike between Webster Avenue and Proctor Street underneath I-40: Middlebrook Pike is reduced to one lane in each direction through this area as KUB crews perform utility replacements.  This project is estimated to be complete by July 26, 2013.  Motorists should be alert for workers and equipment present and use extreme caution. Motorists should expect potential delays in this area.

LOUDON COUNTY, US 321/SR 73 between SR 2 and City Park Drive: Motorists should be alert for changing conditions, workers present, construction equipment and use extreme caution through this area.

LOUDON COUNTY, I-40 West Ramp to SR 95 (Exit 364): Motorists should be alert for a temporary lane shift on this ramp as crews perform work in this area. Motorists should be alert for changed conditions, workers present and use caution in this area.

MONROE COUNTY, SR 68 at Isbill Road: Motorists should be alert for possible daily lane closures during daylight hours through this intersection improvement project.  Motorists should be alert for workers present and use extreme caution in this area.

ROANE COUNTY, I-40 East and West near Exit 347: On Wednesday, July 10, 2013 and Thursday, July 11, 2013, motorists should be alert for a temporary lane closure on I-40 East between the hours of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. the following morning as crews set portable barrier rails and re-stripe the roadway. Motorists should be alert for lane shifts, narrowed lanes, closed shoulders, reduced speeds, construction personnel and equipment present and expect potential delays through this bridge repair project.

ROANE COUNTY, US 27 underneath I-40 Exit 347: Motorists should be alert for possible lane closures daily in this area as crews perform overhead bridge work.  Motorists should be alert for workers present and use extreme caution in this area.

ROANE COUNTY, SR 1 /US 27 over Shanty Branch near Poland Hollow Road: Motorists should be alert for traffic shifts and new traffic patterns through this bridge repair project.  Motorists should be alert for workers and equipment present and use extreme caution in this area.

SCOTT COUNTY, SR 29 Bridge over Roaring Paunch Creek near Log Mile 24.7 and 25.8: SR 29 is reduced to one lane around the clock and controlled by a temporary traffic signal as crews begin this bridge repair project.  Motorists should be alert for changed conditions and use extreme caution in this area.

SEVIER COUNTY, SR 66 in Sevierville SR 139 (Douglas Dam Rd.) and SR 338 W (Boyd’s Creek Hwy.): On Monday, July 8, 2013 through Thursday, July 11, 2013, motorists should be alert for nightly lane closures and lane shifts in both directions between Knifeworks Lane and Huffacker Road from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. as crews install storm drains across the roadway.  Short duration traffic stops in both directions may occur daily Monday through Friday through this project for utility crossings. SULLIVAN COUNTY, Fordtown Road between I-81 and Eastern Star Road: Fordtown Road is currently closed to thru traffic.  Motorists should follow signed detour.  Motorists should be alert for workers present and use extreme caution in this area.

SULLIVAN COUNTY, US 11W/SR 1 near Central Heights School: Motorists should be alert for possible lane closures, workers present and use caution through this safety improvement project.

UNICOI COUNTY, SR 107 at Main Street:  Motorists should use extreme caution and be alert for construction personnel and equipment entering and exiting this construction project.

UNION COUNTY, Existing SR 33 Bridge over Clinch River (Norris Lake) Weight Restrictions: The existing State Route 33 Bridge over Norris Lake is posted with weight limit restrictions and is being strictly enforced.  Weight restrictions are: 5 axle vehicles are 35 tons; 3 or 4 axle vehicle is 22 tons; 2 axle vehicles are 20 tons.  VEHICLES WEIGHING IN EXCESS OF THE RESTRICTED WEIGHTS WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO CROSS THE BRIDGE AND MUST FOLLOW A DETOUR ROUTE. Motorists should use extreme caution and be prepared to stop approaching the bridge.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, I-26 West near Mile Marker 11.4: On Tuesday, July 9, 2013, motorists should be alert for a possible lane closure between the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. the following morning as crews perform guardrail repairs.  Motorists should be alert for workers present and use extreme caution in this area.

WASHINGTON/SULLIVAN COUNTY, SR 75 between SR 36 and SR 357: Intermittent lane closures will be implemented in the north and south bound lanes throughout the construction project at various times.  Motorists should expect potential delays, be alert for changing conditions and use caution in this area.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, SR 36 between SR 354 and SR 75: Motorists should be alert for possible lane closures and flag persons directing traffic at various times through this project.  Boone Avenue is closed to thru traffic as construction continues in this area.  Motorists can access Boone Avenue via Roseview Drive during this time. Short duration traffic stops in both directions may occur daily through this project for utility and equipment crossings.  Motorists should be alert for workers present and use extreme caution in this area.
