Weekly Construction Report for Parts of East and Middle Tennessee for July 25 - July 31, 2013

BRADLEY COUNTY, I-75 construction of a concrete Bulb-Tee Beam Bridge, including grading, drainage and paving at the Exit 20 interchange (U.S. 64 Bypass East, U.S. 74 East, SR-311, APD-40) (LM 4.86) in Cleveland:  Work continues on this project.  The contractor will be paving and installing concrete barrier rail on the shoulders under the Exit 20 bridge on Monday, July 29 between the hours of 7PM and 6AM.  Because of the equipment that must be used for this work, the contractor will have to close one lane on I 75 South during this work.  Should weather or unforeseen circumstances delay this work, it will be rescheduled to take place the next available night.  Any work requiring interstate lane closures is limited to Sunday through Thursday nights between 7PM - 6AM.  THP will assist with traffic control as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is November 2015.

BRADLEY and POLK COUNTIES, SR-74 (GA225/Spring Place Road) between the Tennessee/Georgia State Line and SR-313 (Ladd Springs Road) construction of two concrete box bridges over the Conasauga River Overflow (LM 0.01) and the Conasauga River (LM 0.14) including grading, drainage and paving:  SR-74 (GA225/Spring Place Road) is closed to traffic for the duration of the project to replace two bridges between the GA/TN state line and MM 0.45.  There are detour signs and message boards posted in GA and TN to assist motorists, and major delays are expected.  Local traffic will be permitted, at all times, to access businesses and residential property within road closure area.  However traffic will not be permitted to enter the active work area that is adjacent to the Conasauga River bridges.  Every effort will be made to minimize the inconvenience to motorists, businesses, residences, and property owners.  TDOT and consultant staff will be available throughout the project to address any questions or concerns.  Estimated project completion date is October 2013. 

BRADLEY COUNTY, SR-306 (Eureka Road) resurfacing (thin mix overlay) from SR-60 (LM 0.00) to south of SR-308 (LM. 5.53):  Work has begun on this project.   Motorists are urged to pay close attention to the advanced warning signs.   Estimated project completion date is September 2013. 

BRADLEY COUNTY, I-75 South drainage repair project between MM 20 and MM 21 (LM 5.22):  The contractor is removing, replacing, and extending the drainage pipe in this location.  Estimated project completion date is July 2013. 

CANNON / WARREN COUNTY, U.S. 70S (SR-1) grading, drainage, and construction of a concrete I beam bridge from near SR-281 in Cannon County to near SR-287 in Warren County:  Work continues on this project.  All motorists should use caution and be alert to construction equipment and vehicles on the project.  Flaggers may be present on side roads.  SR-146 is closed with a detour posted.  Estimated project completion date is December 2013. 

CANNON / WARREN COUNTY, U.S. 70S (SR-1) paving from near SR-281 in Cannon County to Spring Valley Road in McMinnville, Warren County:  Work continues on this project.  All motorists should use caution and be alert to construction equipment and vehicles on the project.  Flaggers may be present on side roads.  No interruption of traffic is expected.  Estimated project completion date is September 2014. 

CLAY COUNTY, SR-52 grading, drainage, and paving from west of existing SR-53 to existing SR-52:  Traffic on SR-52 has been placed on the new alignment through project CNH199 at the Overton county line.  The Overton County project ties to this project on the east end of this project.  Traffic will continue through this project on the new alignment to existing SR- 53.  Traffic will be reduced from four lanes to two lanes just east of James White road.  The speed limit will be reduced from 55 mph to 45 mph throughout this detour.  Construction signs will be posted throughout the detour.  Existing SR- 52 will be for local traffic only from SR 53 to east of James White Rd.  There will be no through traffic on old SR- 52.  Road closures and construction signs will be installed.  Construction signs are posted on SR-52, SR-53 and James White Road.  The contractor is currently performing grading and blasting operations north of existing SR-52 to South of SR 53.  Traffic has been relocated onto new alignment of Pinkley Ave. at the entrance to the Cumberland River Hospital.  Estimated project completion date is September 2014. 

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, SR-462 new construction from U.S. 70 (SR-1) to U.S. 70N (SR-1), including grading, drainage and paving:  Work continues on this project.  Currently there are no lane closures that will result from this project.  Motorists should be alert for construction vehicles and equipment that may be entering or leaving the jobsite.  Estimated project completion date is June 2014. 

CUMBERLAND (SR- 24 and SR- 101) and-PUTNAM COUNTIES (SR 141) Safety Project:  Construction activities will consist of new sign installation, pavement markings and guardrail installation.  Temporary lane closures with flagging will be required.  Estimated project completion date is July 2013. 

DEKALB COUNTY, SR-56 bridge rehabilitation project (Hurricane Bridge) over Caney Fork River (LM 15.40):  The bridge currently is down to only one lane of traffic, and it is being maintained and controlled by a temporary signal for the safety of the traveling public.  The current weight postings of 10 tons for two-axle vehicles and 18 tons for vehicles with three or more axles will remain in effect and will be strictly enforced.  This will allow for work adjacent to the north side of the bridge to continue.  Further temporary lane shifts may be implemented by flaggers on an “as needed” basis to facilitate work as it progresses.  Estimated project completion date is October 2013. 

DEKALB COUNTY, SR-26 (U.S. 70) construction of a welded steel plate girder bridge and three retaining walls over the Caney Fork River and Sligo Road (LM 24.58):  This bridge replacement project is underway.  Currently the contractor is bringing in equipment to the staging area and beginning assembly of the barge in the river from which the work will be performed.  During construction, the current bridge over the river will remain open to traffic until the new structure is constructed and able to carry traffic.  The contractor may have short lane closures to perform various operations on an as-needed basis.  Flaggers will be on site to assist with traffic control.  Estimated project completion date is June 2016. 

DEKALB COUNTY, SR-56 resurfacing from the bridge over Pine Creek (LM 4.41) to south of U.S. 70 (SR-26) (LM 7.76):  Lane shifts will be altered throughout the project to allow shoulder work to be performed. Weather permitting; the contractor could have temporary lane closures.  In the event of a temporary lane closure, the contractor will use flaggers to maneuver motorists through the project .Estimated project completion date is July 2013. 

DEKALB COUNTY, SR-96 resurfacing from Center Hill Dam (LM 12.92) to the Putnam County Line (LM 15.89):  Lane shifts will be altered throughout the project to allow shoulder work to be performed.  Weather permitting; the contractor could have temporary lane closures.  In the event of a temporary lane closure, the contractor will use flaggers to maneuver motorists through the project.  Estimated project completion date is September 2013. 

DEKALB and PUTNAM COUNTIES, SR-56 resurfacing from LM 8.09 to Putnam County Line (LM 20.20); SR-56 resurfacing from DeKalb County Line (LM 0.00) to I-40 overpass (LM 0.54); and SR-141 resurfacing from DeKalb County Line (LM 0.00) to SR-56 (LM 3.41):  Lane shifts will be altered throughout the project to allow shoulder work to be performed.  Weather permitting; the contractor could have temporary lane closures.  In the event of a temporary lane closure, the contractor will use flaggers to maneuver motorists through the project.   Estimated project completion date is September 2013. 

DEKALB COUNTY, U.S. 70 (SR-26) installation of a flashing beacon at the intersection of SR-83 (LM 4.52):  The contractor may have short lane closures in order to install a flashing beacon at the intersection of SR-83.  Estimated project completion date is July 2013. 

FENTRESS COUNTY, U.S. 127 (SR-28) bridge repair over Wolf River (LM 7.56):  Work continues on this project.  Temporary traffic signals have been activated, and the bridge is down to one lane and controlled by the signals for the duration of the project.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is November 2013. 

FENTRESS COUNTY, U.S. 127 (SR-28) resurfacing (thin mix overlay) from south of Hoodtown Rd. (LM 10.34) to south of Airport Rd. (LM 13.41)bridge repair over Wolf River (LM 7.56):  Paving operations have begun on this project.  Flaggers will be used to navigate traffic through the project.  Estimated project completion date is July 2013. 

HAMILTON COUNTY, I-24 and I-75 resurfacing project:  I-24 resurfacing from west of Spring Creek Rd. (MM 185) to I-75 (MM 185.7); I-75 resurfacing from the Georgia State Line (MM 0.00) to south of Chickamauga Creek (MM 1.91):  Work on this project is complete pending addressing of punchlist items.  Any work requiring lane closures is limited to Sunday through Thursday nights between 9PM - 6AM.  THP will assist with traffic control. 

HAMILTON COUNTY, U.S. 41 (SR-8, Ringgold Rd.) grading, drainage and paving at the intersection of I 75 South off-ramp (LM 1.07) at Exit 1:  Work on this project has begun.  The contractor will be working on Exit 1 on I-75 South at East Ridge performing temporary lane shifts and lane reduction operations during this report period.  Work will take place between the hours of 7AM and 6PM on Mondays through Saturdays.  Unless a major backup occurs, traffic on I-75 should not be affected.  In the future this job could require a temporary lane/shoulder closure on I-75 South.  THP and flaggers will assist with traffic control as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is September 2013. 

HAMILTON COUNTY, U.S. 27 (SR-29) reconstruction project from Manufacturers Road (Olgiati Bridge over the Tennessee River) to U.S. 127 (SR-8, Signal Mountain Boulevard):  Weather permitting, the contractor will have lane closures throughout the project area on weeknights from 7PM to 6AM to perform road work.  During this report period, the contractor will also be working on retaining walls and bridges throughout the project area.  During nighttime work, at least one lane will remain open in each direction.  THP will assist with traffic control on the project as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is December 2014. 

HAMILTON COUNTY, Shallowford Road widening project from Gunbarrel Road to Jenkins Road, including grading drainage, and paving:  Work continues on this project.  Traffic has been switched to the temporary paving on the SB side of the project and the contractor is working on road and drainage on the NB side of the project.  This work will be performed during the day on weekdays only.  Flaggers will be in place to assist with traffic control.  Estimated project completion date is September 2013. 

JACKSON COUNTY, SR-262 bridge repair over Cumberland River (LM 7.56):  Work continues on this project.  Temporary traffic signals have been activated, and the bridge is down to one lane and controlled by the signals for the duration of the project.  During this report period, the contractor will close the bridge for short durations while pouring concrete from 7AM – 5PM.  Motorists should expect delays.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is May 2014. 

MARION COUNTY, U.S. 41 (U.S. 64, U.S. 72, SR-2) replacement of the truss bridge over the Tennessee River at Nickajack Lake (LM 21.14) with a multi-span steel plate girder bridge:  The truss bridge is now closed to all through traffic until the new adjacent bridge currently under construction is completed.  A detour route that adds an additional 1.5 miles to the current route is posted.  Estimated project completion date is February 2014. 

MCMINN COUNTY, SR-30 widening project, including grading, drainage, paving, construction of a concrete box beam bridge and retaining wall from County Road 609 to the 4-lane section in Etowah:  The contractor is moving dirt in this phase of the project.  County Road 607 is currently closed, and a marked detour is in place.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  The contractor is installing a detour, and there will be lane shifts on this project.  Estimated project completion is November 2014. 

MCMINN and POLK COUNTIES, resurfacing (microsurfacing) in McMinn County at U.S 11 (SR-2) from the Bradley County line (LM 0.00) to the four-lane section (LM 7.30), and SR-163 (Bowater Road) from west of Piney Grove Road (LM 8.95) to the Polk County Line (LM 14.56).  In Polk County on SR-163 (Bowater Road) from the McMinn County Line (LM 0.00) to SR-30 (LM 0.92):  The guardrail contractor is scheduled to start working during this work period.  Estimated project completion date is September 2013. 

MEIGS COUNTY, SR-30 relocation beginning east of the Tennessee River to west of SR-58:  Work continues on this project.  Traffic will not be affected at this time.   Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  Estimated project completion is October 2013. 

OVERTON COUNTY, SR-84 construction of two concrete Bulb-Tee beam bridges, including grading, drainage and paving beginning near existing SR-85 (Windle Road) to SR-84:  The operation to construct new bridges is currently underway.  The contractor periodically will have traffic down to one lane.  One of the main line traffic lanes will be closed by the use of barrels during this time.  A flagging operation is being used to navigate traffic through the project.  Estimated project completion date is September 2013. 

POLK COUNTY, U.S. 411 (SR-33) grading, drainage, construction of three concrete Bulb-Tee beam bridges, and paving beginning at the Benton City Limits and extending to SR-30:  (Recovery Act Project  This project is essentially complete, pending completion of the final punch list.  There could be temporary lane closures to complete the punch list.  Estimated project completion date is July 2013. 

PUTNAM COUNTY, I-40 resurfacing from east of SR-56 (Exit 273) to east of SR-56 (Exit 280), including bridge deck repair:  Work continues on this project.  This is a nighttime project and will be a continuous operation taking place on both eastbound and westbound I 40 simultaneously.  During this project, the contractor will have lane closures throughout the project area on weeknights to perform road work on Sunday through Thursday between the hours of 7PM-5AM.  As the project progresses, lane shifts will be altered throughout the project to allow shoulder work to be performed, and the contractor could have temporary lane closures.  In the event of a temporary lane closure, the contractor will use flaggers to maneuver motorists through the project during daylight hours.  THP will be present to assist with traffic control on the project as necessary.  Estimated project completion is August 2013. 

PUTNAM COUNTY, SR-135 at Ditty Road (LM 4.02) intersection improvement including grading, drainage and paving:  Work continues on this project.  As the project progresses, lane shifts will be altered throughout the project to allow shoulder work to be performed.  Weather permitting; the contractor could have temporary lane closures.  In the event of a temporary lane closure, the contractor will use flaggers to maneuver motorists through the project during daylight hours.  Estimated project completion is August 2013. 

PUTNAM COUNTY, miscellaneous safety improvements on various local roads:  Traffic will be paced on various local roads in Putnam County to perform safety improvements.  Weather permitting; the contractor could have temporary lane closures.  In the event of a temporary lane closure, the contractor will use flaggers to maneuver motorists through the project during daylight hours.  Estimated project completion is July 2013. 

RHEA and MEIGS COUNTIES, SR-30 bridge repair over Tennessee River (LM 17.26):  Work is substantially complete on this project, and all lanes on the bridge are open to traffic.  Estimated project completion date is July 2013.
