MEMPHIS, Tenn–The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will host a design public meeting June 4, 2013 in Memphis at the Memphis Central Station, MATA Boardroom, 545 South Main Street, Memphis, TN 38103 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. for the I-55 and Crump Boulevard Interchange project.

During the meeting, residents will be shown the design for the new interchange and be able to comment to a court reporter. There will be a short formal presentation followed by a question and answer period. TDOT representatives will be present to provide information and answer questions about the project.

The interchange modification project is listed in TDOT’s current 3 Year Program to receive construction funding in 2014-15. During the project development process, TDOT worked closely with several interested parties including the historic French Fort Community which was separated from downtown Memphis when I-55 was constructed in the 1950’s.

The purpose of this project is to resolve safety and capacity issues of I-55 at the Crump Boulevard Interchange. The interchange at I-55 will be realigned for direct traffic flow between McLemore Avenue and the bridge over the Mississippi River. The current northbound to westbound interchange will be converted to a roundabout providing access between local roads and the interstate ramps.
