April Unemployment Rate 8.0 Percent

TENNESSEE UNEMPLOYMENT RATE INCREASES FROM 7.8 PECENT IN MARCH
 

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Labor & Workforce Development Acting Commissioner Burns Phillips announced today Tennessee’s unemployment rate for April was 8.0 percent, which increased two tenths of one percentage point from the March revised rate of 7.8 percent. The national unemployment rate for April 2013 was 7.5 percent, decreasing by one tenth of one percentage point from the previous month.

Economic Summary:

  • Tennessee's April unemployment rate is the lowest April rate since 2008
  • Total nonfarm employment increased 4,500 jobs from March to April (seasonally adjusted).
  • The largest increases occurred in professional/business services, education/health services, and accommodation/food services.
  • Total nonfarm employment increased 47,900 jobs from April 2012 to April 2013 (seasonally adjusted).

The largest increases occurred in professional/business services, health care/social assistance, and leisure/hospitality.
