A Portion of Signal Mtn. Blvd. in Chattanooga to be Closed During Evening Hours Next Week to Demolish a Bridge over the Roadway

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – TDOT contract crews will close a portion of Signal Mtn. Blvd. located near the Dayton Blvd. intersection on the evenings of Monday, April 22, 2013 through Wednesday, April 24, 2013 between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. EDT to demolish the bridge on the existing northbound exit ramp to Signal Mtn. Blvd., which passes over the roadway.

The contractor will demolish the bridge by taking it apart in pieces, and the roadway beneath will be protected with mats during this work.  Once the bridge is removed, the contractor will set portable barrier rail to close the inside lanes to allow for construction of the foundations for a new bridge.

During the closures, traffic will follow a marked detour route to navigate around the area.  Troopers with the Tennessee Highway Patrol will be present to assist with traffic control.  This work is weather permitting.  Should inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances prevent this work from occurring as scheduled, it will be rescheduled to take place as soon as possible.

This phase of construction is part of the large project underway to reconstruct U.S. 27 from the Olgiati Bridge over the Tennessee River to Signal Mountain Boulevard (SR-8/U.S. 127).  The contractor for the $104 million project is Wright Brothers Construction Co., Inc. of Charleston, TN.  The estimated completion date for the entire project is December 21, 2014.
