TDOT to Inspect Overhead Light Structures in Chattanooga Tunnels

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The TDOT Region Two bridge inspection team will conduct inspections of overhead light structures in several tunnels on State Routes in the Chattanooga area.  During these inspections, the tunnels will require total closure.  The inspections will take place on Monday through Thursday nights (with the exception of the MLK holiday on Monday, January 21) between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. EST and continue until the inspections are complete.  TDOT maintenance crews will assist with traffic control. 

The tentative schedule is as follows:

Thursday, January 10, 2013
Stringers Ridge Tunnel (SR-8)

Monday, January 14, 2013; Tuesday, January 15, 2013; Wednesday, January 16, 2013
Brainerd Rd./McCallie Tunnels (SR-2/US11-64)

Thursday, January 17, 2013; Tuesday, January 22, 2013; Wednesday, January 23, 2013
Bachman Tubes (East Ridge) (SR-8/US41)

Android and iPhone users can download TDOT’s SmartWay Mobile App to assist them in navigating Tennessee highways.  The app provides up-to-the-minute customized traffic information and enables the user to access TDOT’s SmartWay cameras, messages displayed on overhead Dynamic Message Signs, and information on construction related lane closures and incidents on interstates and state routes.  The TDOT SmartWay App is free and available for download in the Apple App Store and Play Store for Android.  Other smartphone users can use the TDOT SmartWay Mobile website at http://m.tdot.tn.gov/SmartWay/ to access TDOT’s SmartWay traffic information.

As always, drivers are reminded to use all motorist information tools wisely and Know Before You Go! by checking travel conditions before leaving for their destination.  Drivers should never tweet, text or talk on a cell phone while behind the wheel.
