East Tennessee Construction Report July 26-August 1, 2012

 

CAMPBELL COUNTY, I-75 South between Mile Markers 144 and 141: Motorists should be alert for lane closures and traffic shifts through this area. I-75 South is reduced to one lane and temporarily shifted to the northbound side between Mile Markers 144 and 141 around a recent roadway embankment slide located near Mile Marker 143. Motorists should be alert for reduced speeds approaching this area. During holiday and peak travel times, major delays and traffic backups are possible along this stretch of I-75. Motorists are advised that there are no exits with fuel service after Exit 160 until Exit 141 and should check fuel levels prior to Exit 160. Traffic loads in excess of 12 feet in width are prohibited through the slide area. Wide loads traveling I-75 South in excess of 12 feet in width should take Exit 62 in Kentucky and follow US 25 to SR 461 to SR 80 to SR 914 to US 27 into Tennessee and follow SR 63 back to I-75 at Exit 141. Motorists should use extreme caution in this area.

COCKE COUNTY, I-40 West near the North Carolina/Tennessee State Line: Motorists should be alert for possible lane closures through this area as crews complete rockslide repairs. Motorists should expect possible delays during peak travel periods and use extreme caution in this area.

 

COCKE COUNTY, I-40 East and West near Mile Marker 435: Motorists should be alert for possible lane closures at various times in this area as crews perform overhead bridge repairs at Exit 435. Motorists should be alert for workers present, expect potential delays and use extreme caution through this area.

 

COCKE COUNTY, US 321/SR 32 over I-40 at Exit 435: US 321/SR 32 over I-40 is reduced to one lane in each direction through this bridge repair project. These lane closures will be in place around the clock. Motorists should be alert for new traffic patterns, expect potential delays and use extreme caution through this area.

COCKE COUNTY, US 25/70/SR 9 Bridge over the French Broad River at Log Mile 21.6: The historic Wolf Creek Bridge on US 25/70/SR 9 over the French Broad River is closed to thru traffic as crews perform work on this bridge rehabilitation project. The bridge will be closed thru March of 2014. Separate signed detours will be in place for passenger and commercial vehicles. Motorists should adjust travel times accordingly and use caution through this area. GRAINGER COUNTY, SR 92 Bridge over Richland Creek at Log Mile 9.14: Motorists should be alert for a lane closure which has the roadway reduced to one lane controlled by a temporary traffic signal through this bridge project. Traffic loads in excess of 9 feet in width should follow an alternate route. Motorists should be alert for new traffic patterns, expect potential delays and use extreme caution while traveling through this area.

GRAINGER COUNTY, US 11W/SR 1 between West Hills Road and Water Street: Motorists should be alert for possible lane closures during daylight hours through this resurfacing project. Motorists should be alert for workers and equipment present and use extreme caution through this area.

 

GRAINGER COUNTY, US 11W/SR 1 between Briar Fork Creek Bridge and Hawkins County Line: Motorists should be alert for possible lane closures during daylight hours through this resurfacing project. Motorists should be alert for workers and equipment present and use extreme caution through this area.

 

HAMBLEN COUNTY, I-81 North and South between Mile Markers 7.5 and 17.5: Motorists should be alert for possible nightly lane closures between the hours of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. the following morning on Sunday nights through Thursday nights through this resurfacing project. Motorists should be alert for workers present, expect potential delays and use extreme caution through this area.

HAMBLEN COUNTY, I-81 North and South near Exit 8:Motorists should be alert for possible lane closures and rolling roadblocks between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. as crews perform overhead bridge work. Motorists should be alert for slow moving traffic and use extreme caution approaching this area.

HAMBLEN COUNTY, SR 32/US 25E near I-81 Interchange: Motorists should be alert for new traffic patterns through this project. US 25E is reduced to one lane in each direction approaching the bridge over I-81 and new traffic shifts are in place as the northbound traffic has been shifted over to the southbound side as crews perform bridge work in this area. Motorists should be alert for possible lane closures and flag persons directing traffic at various times through this project. Motorists should be alert for workers present and use extreme caution in this area.

HAMBLEN COUNTY, SR 32/US 25E near College Park Drive: Motorists should be alert for new traffic patterns and lane shifts through this project. Motorists should be alert for possible lane closures at various times through this project. Short duration traffic stops in both directions may occur daily through this project for utility and equipment crossings. Motorists should be alert for workers present and use extreme caution in this area.

HAMBLEN COUNTY, SR 160 at Log Miles 7.95, 9.56 and 14.53: SR 160 northbound is reduced from two lanes to one around the clock as crews perform bridge repairs through this area. These closures are estimated to remain in place through November 2012. Motorists should be alert for workers and equipment present and use extreme caution through this area.

HAWKINS COUNTY, Main Street over Southern Railroad in Bulls Gap: A section of Main Street is closed to thru traffic and detoured around this bridge replacement project. Motorists should follow signed detour route and adjust travel times accordingly.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, I-40 and I-81 Interchange: Motorists on I-81 South should be alert for lane shifts and a shoulder closure at the junction with I-40 at this interchange improvement project. The speed limit has been reduced to 45 MPH in this work zone. Motorists should be alert for workers present, expect potential delays and use extreme caution through this area.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, SR 92 between Log Miles 13.1 and 15.9: Motorists should be alert for temporary lane closures during daylight hours through this resurfacing project. Motorists should be alert workers and equipment present and use caution through this area.

KNOX COUNTY, I-140 East near Northshore Drive (Exit 5):. Motorists should be alert for possible lane closures approaching this area between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 pm. daily.The new location of the exit ramp to Northshore Drive, which has been relocated approximately ½ mile west of the existing ramp, is now open. Motorists should be alert for reduced speeds, lane shifts and narrowed lanes on this ramp as construction continues on this project.  Motorists should be alert for workers present and use extreme caution through this area.

KNOX COUNTY, I-140 West exit and entrance ramps at Northshore Drive (Exit 5): Motorists should be alert for narrowed ramp lanes, workers present and use extreme caution through this ramp improvement project.

KNOX COUNTY, SR 1 Kingston Pike at Everett Road: Motorists on Kingston Pike near Everett Road should be alert for lane closures in both directions through this bridge widening project. Everett Road between the Kingston Pike intersection and Saint Andrews Drive is closed to thru traffic for most of the duration of the project. Everett Road motorists are advised to use other routes such as Hobbs Road/Union Road and Smith Road to enter and exit this portion of Everett Road.   Motorists should be alert for changed conditions, workers present and use extreme caution through this area.

KNOX COUNTY, SR 62 (Oak Ridge Hwy. /Western Ave.) between Schaad Road and Copper Kettle Road: Motorists should be alert for temporary lane closures at various times throughout this widening project. Motorists traveling in this area should be alert for workers and equipment present and be alert for changing traffic conditions, detours, traffic shifts and use caution through this area. South Hinton Road between Western Avenue and Third Creek Road; Jimmy Carter Road at Western Avenue; and Beaver Ridge Road at Western Avenue are closed for construction. A short section of Ball Camp Pike between Western Avenue and Goldenrod Street is closed for construction. Motorists should be alert for changing conditions and follow signed detour routes.

 

KNOX COUNTY, US 441/SR 33 Henley Bridge over Tennessee River in Downtown Knoxville: The Henley Bridge is closed to traffic for bridge rehabilitation. Motorists should follow signed detour route using James White Parkway. For updated project information, go to http://www.tdot.state.tn.us/henley/

KNOX COUNTY, SR 158 Neyland Drive approaching the Henley Bridge: Motorists should be alert for a new traffic pattern through this project. Neyland Drive is reduced to one lane in each direction and shifted to the westbound side as work continues on the overhead Henley Bridge. These closures will remain in place around the clock until August 2012. Motorists should expect potential delays during rush hour. KNOX COUNTY, SR 158 Neyland Drive Eastbound near Leinard Lane : Motorists should be alert for a lane shift through this area as KUB contractors perform utility work. Motorists should be alert for changed traffic patterns; workers present and use extreme caution in this area.

KNOX COUNTY, SR 131 Emory Road between Gill Road and Clinton Highway:Short duration traffic stops in both directions may occur at various times through this widening project for utility and equipment crossings. Motorists should be alert for workers present and use extreme caution in this area.

 

LOUDON COUNTY, SR 2 between Hattley Drive and Oak Street: Beginning Sunday, July 29, 2012, motorists should be alert for nightly lane closures between the hours of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. the following morning on Sunday nights through Thursday nights through this resurfacing project. Motorists should be alert for workers present, expect potential delays and use extreme caution through this area.

ROANE COUNTY, I-40Eastbetween Mile Markers340 and 342: On Friday, July 27, 2012, motorists should be alert for brief rolling roadblocks through this area after 9 a.m. as crews perform pavement marking operations through this slope stabilization project. Motorists should be alert for slowed or stopped traffic approaching this area and use extreme caution. 

ROANE COUNTY, SR 1 /US 70 at Old Kingston Highway: Old Kingston Highway at the intersection with US 70 across from Country Club Road is closed as crews reconstruct this road for realignment with US 70. Motorists should follow signed detour route and use caution in this area.

ROANE COUNTY, SR 95 between Westover Drive and SR 58:Motorists should be alert for changing conditions, possible lane closures at various times and use caution through this construction project.

 

SCOTT COUNTY, SR 465 near Log Mile 4.75: On Tuesday, July 31, 2012 and Wednesday, August 1, 2012, motorists should be alert for a temporary road closure near Log Mile 4.75 as crews replace a pipe underneath the roadway. Thru traffic on SR 465 should follow an alternate route during this time.

SEVIER COUNTY, SR 66 in Sevierville between I-40 and SR 139 (Douglas Dam Rd.): Short duration traffic stops in both directions may occur daily Monday through Friday through this project for utility crossings. SEVIER COUNTY, SR 66 in Sevierville SR 139 (Douglas Dam Rd.) and SR 338 W (Boyd’s Creek Hwy.):Short duration traffic stops in both directions may occur daily Monday through Friday through this project for utility crossings. SEVIER COUNTY, Asbury Lane over LeConte Creek at Mynatt Park in Gatlinburg: Motorists should be alert for a lane closure with stop conditions through this bridge construction project. Intermittent short duration traffic stops in both directions may occur daily for equipment crossings.

SULLIVAN COUNTY, I-26 East and West near Mile Marker 6 (Welcome Center):  Motorists should be alert for possible lane closures and brief rolling roadblocks between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily through this area. Motorists should be aware of shoulder closures, workers present, reduced speed limit and use caution in this area.

SULLIVAN COUNTY, SR 36 Bridge over CSX Railroad between I-81 and Wilmont Drive: Motorists should be alert for new traffic patterns through this bridge repair project as crews have closed the southbound bridge and shifted all traffic to the northbound bridge. Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction. Motorists should be alert for lane closures, lane shifts and use extreme caution through this area. Motorists should expect potential delays through this area and adjust travel times accordingly.

SULLIVAN COUNTY, Fordtown Road between I-81 and Eastern Star Road:Motorists should be alert for possible lane closures and flag persons directing traffic at various times through this project. Short duration traffic stops in both directions may occur daily through this project for equipment mobilization. Motorists should be alert for workers present and use extreme caution in this area.

SULLIVAN COUNTY, US 11W/ SR 1 near Log Mile 20.03: Motorists should be alert for an eastbound lane closure in place around the clock through this rockfall mitigation project. Motorists should be alert for workers and equipment present and use extreme caution through this area.

UNICOI COUNTY, SR 173 at Marbleton Road: Motorists should be alert for possible lane closures and flag persons directing traffic at various times through this intersection improvement project. Motorists should be alert for workers present and use extreme caution in this area.

UNION COUNTY, Existing SR 33 Bridge over Clinch River (Norris Lake) Weight Restrictions: The existing State Route 33 Bridge over Norris Lake is posted with weight limit restrictions and is being strictly enforced. Weight restrictions are: 5 axle vehicles are 35 tons; 3 or 4 axle vehicle is 22 tons; 2 axle vehicles are 20 tons. VEHICLES WEIGHING IN EXCESS OF THE RESTRICTED WEIGHTS WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO CROSS THE BRIDGE AND MUST FOLLOW A DETOUR ROUTE. Motorists should use extreme caution and be prepared to stop approaching the bridge.
