Dedication Ceremony For Officer Morgan

WARTBURG - It has been seven years since Correctional Officer Wayne "Cotton" Morgan was killed in the line of duty while escorting an inmate from the Roane County Courthouse.  A 28-year employee of the Department of Correction and a Vietnam War Veteran, Officer Morgan was two years away from retirement when an inmate's wife shot and killed him during an escape plot.

A memorial marker will now be placed outside the Morgan County Correctional Complex in his honor.  On Wednesday, Officer Morgan's former co-workers, friends and family will gather for a dedication ceremony.

Morgan County Correctional Complex employees collected funds to purchase the memorial marker.  It will be placed outside the main entrance of the institution.
