TDOC Names Bishop Head of OIC

NASHVILLE, TN- Commissioner Derrick D. Schofield is pleased to announce the appointment of Joseph Bishop as Director of the Office of Investigations and Compliance (OIC). Bishop is a 32-year veteran of law enforcement and has served as Chief of the Columbia, Tennessee Police Department since 2008. As head of the OIC, Bishop will oversee the Department’s law enforcement, special operations, and compliance units. 

“The skill set Joey Bishop brings to the Department, along with his analytical approach to predicting potential security risks, makes him a perfect fit for the OIC,” said Commissioner Schofield. “We look forward to Chief Bishop joining our team in accomplishing our mission of operating safe and secure prisons and providing effective community supervision.”  

Bishop said, “I am honored to join the team and equally excited to contribute to the ongoing operations and overall successes at TDOC.” 

A native of Boston, Massachusetts, Bishop spent 27 years on the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department where he rose to the rank of Deputy Chief. He also served as a Military Police Officer in the United States Army, stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky

Bishop holds a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Tennessee State University and a master's degree in public service management from Cumberland University.  His appointment becomes effective August 1, 2012.
