Main Street Programs Tout Special Events, Farmers' Markets to Promote Historic Downtowns

NASHVILLE – With the arrival of warm weather, Tennessee Main Street communities across the state are breaking out the fireworks and hauling in the local produce. Tennessee Main Street Programs are hosting multiple summer events and farmer's markets to support historic downtown business districts across the state.

"The upcoming summer season provides an excellent opportunity to enjoy the truly unique charms of our Tennessee Main Street communities and to support locally owned businesses," Bill Hagerty, commissioner, Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development, said. "The vibrant and historic downtown districts located throughout Tennessee contribute to healthy local economies and make our state an even better place to live and work."

"Many of our historic downtowns feature festivals and activities that are fun for the whole family as well as beneficial to the community," Kimberly Nyberg, director, ECD Tennessee Main Street, said. "As you make your outdoor plans this summer, I encourage you to discover the exciting events happening locally on Main Street."

Main Street revitalization is a comprehensive, incremental, self-help economic strategy that also focuses on developing public-private partnerships to enhance community livability and job creation, while maintaining the historic character of the district.

Tennessee's Main Street program provides communities with technical assistance and guidance in developing long-term strategies that promote economic growth and development. The program provides information and assistance in forging public networking and training opportunities for downtown commercial districts. Tennessee Main Street communities are part of the National Main Street Center's network.
