Online Filing More Convenient for Claimants

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development announces Shelby County has been added to the Internet Claims program for filing unemployment insurance claims, effective May 1, 2012.
“By using the Internet to file claims, clients do not have to travel to a Career Center, complete paper forms, or stand in line for long periods of time,” said Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development Commissioner Karla Davis. “Filing a claim online is the fastest, safest, and most efficient way to apply for benefits. We’re pleased to now be able to offer this service to Memphis residents.”
To file a claim, simply go to and select “File Unemployment Claim” under “Online Services.” Before beginning the process, a claimant should have ready his social security number, telephone number, name of county of residence, employment data for the last 18 months including employer name and address, and bank routing number and bank account number if he elects to receive benefits by direct deposit; otherwise claimants receive benefits on the Tennessee Automated Payment Visa Card provided by Chase Bank.
The 1295 Poplar Career Center has installed five additional computer work stations that can be used for filing online. For the short term, claimants can still walk into any of the Memphis Career Centers and file a claim in person.
In addition to the Career Center at Memphis Poplar, computer resources for filing claims online are available at the following Shelby County Career Centers:
Tennessee Career Center at Collierville
942 West Poplar Avenue, Suite 10
Tennessee Career Center at Memphis Mendenhall
5368 South Mendenhall Mall

Tennessee Career Center at Memphis Raleigh
2850 Old Austin Peay Highway
Suite 132
