Eugene Neubert Named Deupty Commissioner

NASHVILLE— Eugene H. Neubert has been appointed deputy commissioner for operations for the Tennessee Department of Health. He has previously served as assistant commissioner for the department’s Bureau of Administrative Services, and had been acting deputy commissioner since January 2011.

“In his role as both Acting Deputy and Assistant Commissioner, Eugene has stewarded the department’s fiscal and contractual affairs in the context of our very challenging economic times and yearly budget reductions,” said Health Commissioner John J. Dreyzehner, MD, MPH. “It has been my pleasure to work with him in his acting role and I am confident that with his depth and breadth of experience at TDH and in state government, Eugene will make an excellent addition to our senior leadership team.”

As deputy commissioner, Neubert will provide direct supervision to the divisions of Administrative Service and Information Technology Services, and office of Human Resources. He will also provide policy guidance and support to the all divisions and offices within the department including the offices of General Counsel, Compliance and Internal Audit, Legislative Services, Health Policy and Communications.

Neubert first came to the Department of Health from the Department of Commerce and Insurance in 2007, where he served as assistant commissioner for administration, fiscal officer, budget director, and worked as a staff auditor. Neubert has worked in various capacities within Tennessee state government for more than 13 years. Neubert received his Bachelor of Science degree from Tennessee Technological University, and attended the Tennessee Government Executive Institute at the University of Tennessee in 2003.
