NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is planning to make significant improvements to the Whites Landing area located at Reelfoot Lake.

TWRA officials and Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission members held a ceremonial ground breaking for the project during the TFWC’s recent visit to Reelfoot Lake at its monthly meeting.

The TWRA’s goal with the project is to allow more accessibility and conveniences to the historic area, considered to be one of the pristine natural destinations in the state for sportsmen, wildlife watchers, and other outdoor enthusiasts. The Whites Landing site encompasses about eight total acres.

Improvements include additional parking, three boat ramps, a courtesy dock, a picnic pavilion, picnic tables grill, walking pier, fishing pier, lighting, and restroom facilities. The agency has applied for state and federal permits. Construction is expected to begin during the spring of 2013 and the project is expected to take two years to be fully completed.

Whites Landing is located on Tennessee Highway 21/22 on the southern portion of the lake. Reelfoot Lake State Park is located nearby.
