Weekly Construction Report for Parts of East and Middle Tennessee for October 11 - October 17, 2012

BRADLEY COUNTY, SR-60 (Dalton Pike) road widening from near Gilliland Road to U.S. 64 (SR-311):  SR-60 (Dalton Pike) is undergoing major reconstruction.  The existing two-lane highway is being widened to a five-lane highway with sidewalk, curb and gutter on either side.  All driveways and side streets along the 2.7 mile project are being lowered or raised to match the proposed SR-60 grade.  Delays are to be expected at the intersection of Dalton Pike and McGrady Drive/Treasury Drive as the contractor works to upgrade the intersection.  Hawk Street (east) is closed to through traffic.  The temporary road closure is necessary to excavate and build a box culvert across the proposed new alignment.  The contractor will have to do lane shifts in order to pave the road.  Also the contractor will be installing drainage pipe, box culvert, sidewalk, curb and gutter in the coming weeks.  Detour signs and message boards will be provided to assist motorists.  Estimated project completion date is Late Fall 2012.

BRADLEY and POLK COUNTIES, SR-74 (GA225/Spring Place Road) between the Tennessee/Georgia State Line and SR-313 (Ladd Springs Road) construction of two concrete box bridges over the Conasauga River Overflow (LM 0.01) and the Conasauga River (LM 0.14) including grading, drainage and paving:  SR-74 (GA225/Spring Place Road) is closed to traffic for the duration of the project to replace two bridges between the GA/TN state line and MM 0.45.  There are detour signs and message boards posted in GA and TN to assist motorists, and major delays are expected.  Local traffic will be permitted, at all times, to access businesses and residential property within road closure area.  However traffic will not be permitted to enter the active work area that is adjacent to the Conasauga River bridges.  Every effort will be made to minimize the inconvenience to motorists, businesses, residences, and property owners.  TDOT and consultant staff will be available throughout the project to address any questions or concerns.  Estimated project completion date is October 2013. 

BRADLEY COUNTY, SR-60 construction of two concrete box bridges over Greasy Creek (LM 21.02) and Branch Creek (LM 24.28) including grading, drainage and paving:  The majority of the work is completed on this project.  Minimal interruptions are expected.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  Estimated project completion date is October 2012. 

BRADLEY COUNTY, State Industrial Access road serving Wacker Chemical Company, including grading, drainage and paving:  During this report period, the contractor will be working on the Lauderdale Road tie-in to the new road.  Sometime during the report period the road will be opened, if weather conditions are favorable.  A detour is in effect on the Lower River Road.  Please follow the detour signs and highway markings through the detour.  Estimated project completion date is December 2012. 

CANNON / WARREN COUNTY, U.S. 70S (SR-1) grading, drainage, and construction of a concrete I beam bridge from near SR-281 in Cannon County to near SR-287 in Warren County.  Work continues on this project.  All motorists should use caution and be alert to construction equipment and vehicles on the project.  Flaggers may be present on side roads.  Estimated project completion date is December 2013. 

CANNON COUNTY, U.S. 70S (SR-1) construction of a concrete I-Beam bridge over Hill Creek (LM 7.23), including grading, drainage and paving:  There will be no long-term lane closures as a result of this project.  The existing bridge will remain open until construction of a new adjacent structure.  Traffic lanes across the bridge are 11 feet wide.  The contractor may have intermittent short-term lane closures to move equipment.  Flaggers will be present to assist with traffic control when necessary.  Estimated project completion date is November 2012. 

CLAY / OVERTON COUNTY, SR-52 grading, drainage, paving, and construction of five bridges and retaining wall from existing SR-52 (LM 24.66) to 0.4 mile east of Overton County Line (LM 0.4):  The contractor is currently constructing a bridge at Poor House Ridge Road and performing grading operations.  They are also laying base stone.  There are no lane closures scheduled at this time.  The contractor is using a flagging operation in order to navigate construction equipment through the project as needed.  Estimated project completion date is November 2012. 

CLAY COUNTY, SR-52 grading, drainage, and paving from west of existing SR-53 to existing SR-52:  Construction signs are posted on SR-52, SR-53 and James White Road.  The contractor is currently performing grading and blasting operations north of existing SR-52 to South of SR-53.  Traffic has been relocated onto new alignment of Pinkley Ave. at the entrance to the Cumberland River Hospital.  Haul trucks and equipment will be entering and exiting SR-53 at SR-52 and the entrance to the Cumberland River Hospital.  Haul trucks will also be entering and exiting SR-52 at new SR-52.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  Traffic on James White Road has been switched to a newly aligned temporary detour utilizing the east bound lanes of new SR-52 from existing James White Road to existing SR-52.  Estimated project completion date is September 2014. 

CLAY COUNTY, SR-52 bridge construction over New Hope Branch beginning east of New Hope Branch (LM 15.75) to the Cumberland River (LM 17.49), including grading drainage and paving:  The contractor is constructing new bridge and performing grading operations.  There are no lane closures scheduled at this time.  The contractor is using a flagging operation to navigate construction equipment through the project.  Estimated project completion date is October 2012. 

CLAY COUNTY, SR-53 resurfacing from the Obey River Bridge (LM 8.04) to north of Lick Creek Rd. (LM 12.91):  The contractor will be performing resurfacing work.  Traffic will be navigated through the project using a flagging operation.  Estimated project completion date is October 2012. 

COFFEE COUNTY, U.S. 41 (SR-2) construction of a welded steel girder bridge over the Duck River (LM 12.72) including grading, drainage, and paving:  (Recovery Act Project)  The contractor is currently constructing the bridge.  The contractor is using a flagging operation to navigate construction equipment through the project.  Estimated project completion date is October 2012. 

COFFEE COUNTY, State Industrial Access road serving Manchester Industrial Park, including grading, drainage, and paving:  Work is underway on this project.  Estimated project completion date is April 2013. 

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, SR-101 (Lantana Rd.) widening project, including grading, drainage, installation of signals and paving from SR-282 (Dunbar Rd.) to SR-392 (Miller Ave.):  (Recovery Act Project)  All lanes are open to traffic.  The contractor will be addressing punchlist items. 

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, U.S. 70 (SR-1) construction of a concrete Bulb-Tee bridge over Daddy’s Creek (LM 21.94), including grading, drainage and paving:  Construction signs have been installed.  Two-way traffic is being maintained on the existing bridge as construction activities are in progress for the new adjacent structure.  Lane closures and traffic shifts will be required as the new portion of roadway on each side of the new bridge s tied into the existing roadway.  Motorists should be alert for construction vehicles and equipment that may be entering or leaving the jobsite.  Estimated project completion date is May 2013. 

DEKALB COUNTY, SR-56 bridge rehabilitation project (Hurricane Bridge) over Caney Fork River (LM 15.40):  The bridge currently is down to only one lane of traffic, and it is being maintained and controlled by a temporary signal for the safety of the traveling public.  The current weight postings of 10 tons for two-axle vehicles and 18 tons for vehicles with three or more axles will remain in effect and will be strictly enforced.  This will allow for work adjacent to the north side of the bridge to continue.  Further temporary lane shifts may be implemented by flaggers on an “as needed” basis to facilitate work as it progresses.  Estimated project completion date is October 2013. 

FRANKLIN COUNTY, SR-476 resurfacing (thin mix overlay) from Chestnut Ridge Rd. (LM 6.30) to SR-130 (LM 11.82): Work is underway on this project.  The contractor will be working during daylight hours.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is October 2012. 

GRUNDY COUNTY, SR-56 resurfacing from Stone Door Rd./Hege Avenue (LM 25.75) to the Collins River Bridge (LM 28.90):  The contractor will have lane closures for cold planing and resurfacing activities.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control.  Estimated project completion date is November 2012. 

GRUNDY COUNTY, SR-56 resurfacing from south of Dogwood Manor Rd. (LM 14.05) to SR-50 (LM 20.16):  The contractor will have lane closures for cold planing and resurfacing activities.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control.  Estimated project completion date is November 2012. 

HAMILTON COUNTY, I-24 resurfacing beginning at the Georgia State Line (LM 0.0/MM 171) to the bridge over Chattanooga Creek (LM 6.18/MM 177) including bridge deck repair: Paving and bridge repair work are complete.  There will be no lane closures during this report period.  Estimated project completion date is October 2012. 

HAMILTON COUNTY, U.S. 27 (SR-29) reconstruction project from Manufacturers Road (Olgiati Bridge over the Tennessee River) to U.S. 127 (SR-8, Signal Mountain Boulevard):  Weather permitting, the contractor will have lane closures throughout the project area on weeknights to perform road work.  They will also be working on retaining walls and bridges throughout the project area.  The Manufacturers Road entrance ramp onto US 27 North has been closed until spring 2013 to allow for construction of several retaining walls and portions of the new bridges over the railroad and Manning Street.  Detours are posted.  The Manning Street and Whitehall Road exit ramps from U.S. 27 North have both been permanently closed.  During nighttime work, at least one lane will remain open in each direction.  On Tuesday, October 16 Elmwood Drive will be closed from 6PM-6AM between East Frontage Road and Whitehall Road to allow the contractor to perform a bridge deck pour.  THP will assist with traffic control on the project as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is October 2014. 

HAMILTON COUNTY, Shallowford Road widening project from Gunbarrel Road to Jenkins Road, including grading drainage, and paving: The contractor will be laying pipe across the roadway at several locations.  This work will be performed during the day on weekdays only.  Flaggers will be in place to assist with traffic control.  Estimated project completion date is September 2013. 

HAMILTON COUNTY, SR-60 construction of concrete slab bridge over branch (LM 0.44):  (This project is near the Meigs County Line.)  The contractor may be performing work throughout the project area between 7AM-6PM Monday through Saturday.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control.  Estimated project completion date is November 2012. 

HAMILTON COUNTY, Shallowford Road construction of concrete Bulb-Tee beam bridge over South Chickamauga Creek (LM 4.01), including grading drainage, and paving:  During this report period the contractor will be performing paving operations.  There will be no long-term lane closures as a result of this project.  The contractor may have intermittent short-term lane closures to perform bridge work during non-peak hours.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  Estimated project completion date is October 2012. 

HAMILTON COUNTY, U.S. 11 (SR-2, Lee Highway) construction of a concrete box beam bridge over the CSX Railroad (LM 16.25), including grading, drainage and paving:  During this report period, the contractor will be working on addressing punchlist items.  At least one lane of traffic in each direction will be open at all times.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  Estimated project completion date is October 2012. 

HAMILTON COUNTY, Daugherty Ferry Road construction of a concrete box beam bridge, including grading, drainage and paving, over Sale Creek (LM 0.79):  The project to replace the truss bridge over Sale Creek is underway, and the contractor has closed Daugherty Ferry Road to traffic at the bridge for the duration of the project.  The detour route using Coulterville Road and Elesea Road will be clearly marked.  Estimated project completion date is November 2012. 

JACKSON COUNTY, Big Bottom Road construction of a concrete I-beam bridge over Brimstone Creek (LM 10.36), including grading, drainage, and paving:  The existing bridge has been removed.  Detour signs are in place for local traffic.  Estimated project completion date is October 2012. 

MARION COUNTY, I-24 at Exit 152 construction of a concrete Bulb-Tee beam bridge on U.S. 72 (SR-27) including grading, drainage, and paving:  As this project nears completion, the contractor will require lane closures on I-24 throughout the project area to complete final paving and installation of overhead signs.  At least one lane in each direction will remain open at all times.  Any interstate lane closures will be at nighttime between 6PM-6AM.  Flaggers and THP will assist with traffic control as needed.  Estimated project completion date is October 2012. 

MARION COUNTY, I-24 WB miscellaneous safety improvements between MM 137.68 and MM 138.02:  The contractor will have nighttime lane closures on Monday – Friday from 6PM – 6AM to perform safety upgrades.  At least one lane of traffic will be maintained at all times.  THP will assist with traffic control.  Estimated project completion date is October 2012. 

MARION COUNTY, U.S. 41 (U.S. 64, U.S. 72, SR-2) replacement of the truss bridge over the Tennessee River at Nickajack Lake (LM 21.14) with a multi-span steel plate girder bridge:  The truss bridge is now closed to all through traffic until the new adjacent bridge currently under construction is completed.  A detour route that adds an additional 1.5 miles to the current route is posted.  Estimated project completion date is February 2014. 

MARION COUNTY, U.S. 41 (SR-150) resurfacing from Sequatchie Mountain Road (LM 5.71) to south of Nelson Road (LM 9.81):  The contractor will have lane closures for cold planing and resurfacing activities.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control.  Estimated project completion date is November 2012. 

MCMINN COUNTY, SR-30 widening project, including grading, drainage, paving, construction of a concrete box beam bridge and a retaining wall, including signal installation, from Athens City Limits to east of County Road 609:  Traffic has been relocated to the eastbound lanes of the new alignment through the entire project.  Allen Circle has been opened.  The speed limit for State Route 30 is posted at 45 MPH.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  Estimated project completion is December 2012.

MCMINN COUNTY, SR-30 widening project, including grading, drainage, paving, construction of a concrete box beam bridge and retaining wall from County Road 609 to the 4-lane section in Etowah:  The contractor is installing drainage pipes and moving utilities on this phase of the project.  There may be temporary lane shifts and shoulder work.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  Estimated project completion is November 2014. 

McMINN COUNTY, U.S 411 (SR-33) resurfacing from SR-30 (LM 0.00) to Pine Street (LM 4.95):  The contractor has installed the construction signs and plans to start work this week.  The contractor will mill the up the old pavement before the microsurfacing is started.  The contractor is using a flagging operation to navigate construction equipment through the project.  Estimated project completion date is November 2012. 

MEIGS COUNTY, SR-30 relocation beginning east of the Tennessee River to west of SR-58:  Work continues on this project.  Traffic will not be affected at this time.   Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  Estimated project completion is October 2013. 

MEIGS COUNTY, SR-58 resurfacing from SR-68 (LM 26.88) to north of Old Ten Mile Road (LM 31.26):   The project is complete and awaiting final inspection.  Estimated project completion date is October 2012. 

OVERTON COUNTY, SR-84 construction of two concrete Bulb-Tee beam bridges, including grading, drainage and paving beginning near existing SR-85 (Windle Road) to SR-84:  The operation to construct a new bridge is currently underway.  The contractor periodically will have traffic down to one lane.  One of the main line traffic lanes will be closed by the use of barrels during this time.  A flagging operation is being used to navigate traffic through the project.  Estimated project completion date is September 2013. 

PICKETT COUNTY, SR-154 resurfacing from the Fentress County Line (LM 0.00) to the Scott County Line (LM 3.75):  Paving operation is completed.  Guardrail and shoulder stone operations will be conducted with flaggers being used to navigate the traffic through the project.  No lane closures are expected at this time.  Estimated project completion date is November 2012. 

POLK COUNTY, U.S. 411 (SR-33) grading, drainage, construction of three concrete Bulb-Tee beam bridges, and paving beginning at the Benton City Limits and extending to SR-30:  (Recovery Act Project)  The contractor is currently relocating utilities, grading, and installing structures.  The contractor is using a flagging operation to navigate construction equipment through the project.  Estimated project completion date is May 2013. 

POLK / McMINN COUNTY, SR-315 (Polk County) resurfacing with bituminous seal coat and microsurface from SR-30 (LM 0.00) to the Monroe County Line (LM 7.16); SR-39 (McMinn County) resurfacing with bituminous seal coat and microsurface from U.S. 411 (SR-33) (LM 15.17) to SR-310 (LM 22.52):  The contractor has started working on both SR-39 and SR-315. This contract calls for chip seal to be done before microsurfacing can be started.  During this report period the contractor could be working on both state routes at the same time.  The contractor is using a flagging operation to navigate construction equipment through the project.  Estimated project completion date is November 2012. 

PUTNAM COUNTY, SR-111 resurfacing from south of U.S. 70N (LM 5.25) to north of East 10th Street (LM 7.54):  The contractor may implement temporary lane closures on weekdays and pace traffic at various times during the hours of 6AM-6PM depending on the scope of work.  Estimated project completion date is November 2012. 

PUTNAM COUNTY, SR-56 resurfacing from south of I-40 (LM 0.56) to north of U.S. 70N (LM 2.92):  The contractor may implement temporary lane closures on weekdays and pace traffic at various times during the hours of 6AM-6PM depending on the scope of work.  Estimated project completion date is October 2012. 

RHEA and MEIGS COUNTIES, SR-30 bridge repair over Tennessee River (LM 17.26):  Work has begun on this project.  Temporary traffic signals have been activated, and the bridge is down to one lane and controlled by the signals for the duration of the project.  Estimated project completion date is April 2013.

SEQUATCHIE / VAN BUREN COUNTY, SR-111 grading, drainage and paving beginning 3,500 ft. south of SR-8 in Sequatchie County to 1,000 ft. south of SR-284 (Welchland Rd.) in Van Buren County:  Work continues on the widening project on SR-111.  Estimated project completion date is October 2012. 

VAN BUREN COUNTY, SR-111 bridge construction of welded steel plate girder bridge from south of SR-30 to south of Manus Road, including grading, and paving:  The contractor continues work on this project.  Estimated project completion date is November 2012. 

WARREN COUNTY, U.S. 70S (SR-1) relocation of roadway from Centertown to Spring Valley Road including construction of two concrete Bulb-Tee beam bridges, grading, drainage, and some paving:  (Recovery Act Project)  The project is complete.  Final records are being checked.  Estimated project completion date is October 2012.

WARREN COUNTY, SR-56 bridge replacement project (Beersheba St. Bridge) for construction of a concrete bulb-tee beam bridge over the Barren Fork River (LM 11.77) including grading, drainage and paving:  The project is complete and the contractor is working on addressing punchlist items and project clean up.  There will be no long-term lane closures as a result of this project.  The contractor may have intermittent short-term lane closures.  Flaggers will be present to assist with traffic control.  Estimated project completion date is October 2012. 

WHITE COUNTY, SR-111 construction of a concrete Bulb-Tee beam bridge, including grading, drainage and paving at SR-135 junction:  Estimated project completion date is November 2012.
