MEMPHIS, Tenn. – In an effort to keep the public informed on the progress of the I-240 project, the Tennessee Department of Transportation has created a project website, http://www.tn.gov/tdot/i240/. The website will include project facts, lane closure information, and project contact information. Those interested in the project are encouraged to check back often for project updates. TDOT will also distribute brochures and posters containing important project information to area businesses.

The $41.6 million dollar project was awarded to Dement Construction in January 2011 and is expected to be complete by June 2013. The project also includes the rehabilitation of the bridges on State Route 57 (Poplar Avenue) that cross over I-240. The project will widen I-240 from State Route 385 to north of Walnut Grove Road to four lanes in each direction. More than 200,000 vehicles travel this stretch of roadway each day.

Motorists are reminded to use all motorist information tools responsibly. Drivers should refrain from texting, tweeting or using a mobile phone while operating a vehicle. TDOT advises drivers to "Know before you go!" by checking traffic conditions before leaving for their destination.
