TDEC to Kick Off Earth Day Week by Honoring Triumph Aerostructures – Vought Aircraft Division

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation Commissioner Bob Martineau will visit Triumph Aerostructures – Vought Aircraft Division on Monday, April 18, at 1 p.m. to recognize the company for environmental achievements, a fitting way to kick off Earth Day celebrations for the week. The facility, located at 1431 Vultee Boulevard, will be honored for achieving Performer Level status in the Tennessee Pollution Prevention Partnership environmental leadership program.

 

“This is a great achievement for the Triumph Aerostructures team and demonstrates how industries can be successful, while working to reduce and eliminate waste,” said Martineau. “We appreciate their leadership and ongoing efforts to help protect our natural resources.”

 

Martineau will present a framed certificate of recognition and a green Performer flag to Triumph’s Environmental Engineer, Ted Wilkinson, recognizing the facility’s achievements in preventing pollution. The Triumph Aerostructures – Vought Aircraft Division facility is the 17th TP3 member in the state to achieve the distinguished level of Performer, joining nine industrial facilities, four schools and three government agencies.

 

To achieve Performer status, TP3 program participants are required to develop and complete a five-project plan to help prevent pollution of air, land and water, while reducing waste and conserving natural resources. Performers also implement community outreach and mentoring activities into their programs.

 

“Triumph Aerostructures is very proud to have achieved this milestone, which reflects our policy to conduct business operations in a manner that is environmentally responsible,” said Wilkinson. “We are continually seeking new opportunities to eliminate or reduce air pollutants, waste and the use of toxic or hazardous materials.”

 

Triumph Aerostructures’ Nashville facility documented five environmental success stories to achieve Performer status, demonstrating measurable results in pollution prevention. Notable results include reducing hazardous air pollutant emissions by 200 pounds per year and particulate emissions by 600 pounds per year; reducing electricity consumption by 3.2 million kilowatt hours per year; preventing 3,200 tons per year of carbon dioxide (greenhouse gas) emissions; reducing city water usage by 14 million gallons per year; and reducing the total oil storage capacity at the facility (and the associated spill potential) by 500,000 gallons. A used toner and ink cartridge recycling program also was implemented at the facility, and rebates received from this program are donated to charity.

 

Triumph Aerostructures’ site in Nashville employs more than 800 people and builds commercial and military aircraft components for customers such as Airbus, Gulfstream, Cessna and Lockheed Martin.
