Demolition of Henley Bridge Continues

Friday, March 25, 2011 | 09:21am
KNOXVILLE – Work continues to progress on the reconstruction of the Henley Bridge in Knoxville. Since the bridge was closed to traffic in January 2011, work has continued around the clock to demolish the existing structure. Beginning Monday, March 28th, motorists can expect lane closures on Neyland Drive under the Henley Bridge as demolition activities continue. The closures are as follows:

  • Monday March 28 through Thursday March 31, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (EACH DAY) – There will be temporary lane closures on Neyland Drive under the Henley Bridge to construct a median crossover in preparation for a traffic shift.
  • Beginning Monday April 4 through May 30, around the clock – Neyland Drive approaching the overhead Henley Bridge will be reduced to one lane in each direction. The eastbound traffic will be shifted to the westbound side of Neyland Drive in order to perform overhead bridge demolition over the eastbound lanes.

The $24.6 million Henley Bridge Reconstruction Project will take 24 to 30 months to complete. The contract includes a no excuse bonus for completion prior to June 30, 2013 with a maximum bonus of $1 million for completion by December 31, 2012.
