MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Tennessee Department of Transportation contract crews will close lanes on Interstate 40 East and Sam Cooper Boulevard in Shelby County this weekend in order to continue repairs to the bridge on Interstate 40 over Sam Cooper.  Beginning Friday, February 25 at 8:00 p.m. through 6:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 2, I-40 East will have two lanes closed and two lanes open. Sam Cooper will have one lane closed and one lane open. This weekend’s lane reduction is necessary for crew’s to safely remove and repair the bridge deck above and below the Interstate. The work will continue for several more weekends.

All work is weather dependent.

Previous closures for this project have resulted in lengthy back-ups on Interstate 40. Motorists are advised to plan ahead and expect delays. Law enforcement officers will be on site in the work zone to provide traffic control as the work is being completed. TDOT also asks drivers to use caution, reduce their speed and be alert to changing traffic conditions in work zones across the state.
