Weekly Construction Report for Parts of East and Middle Tennessee for November 10-16, 2011

BLEDSOE COUNTY, SR 101 (Lantana Road) bridge repair project over Beaver Dam Creek (LM 6.39): Work on Phase 1 of this project has begun, and traffic has been shifted from the westbound to the eastbound lane.  The bridge has been reduced to one 10’ travel lane, and it is being maintained and controlled by a temporary signal for the safety of the traveling public. Estimated project completion date is September 2012. 

BRADLEY COUNTY, SR-60 (Dalton Pike) road widening from near Gilliland Road to U.S. 64 (SR-311): The contractor continues work on the project. Warning signs are posted and flaggers will be present to assist with traffic control. Estimated project completion date is June 2012. 
 
BRADLEY COUNTY, SR-60 construction of two concrete box bridges over Greasy Creek (LM 21.02) and Branch Creek (LM 24.28) including grading, drainage and paving: Work continues on both the Georgetown and Hopewell ends of the project. Traffic is using a temporary detour while culvert construction takes place. Traffic flow should have minimal interruptions. Estimated project completion date is April 2012. 
 
CANNON COUNTY, U.S. 70S (SR-1) construction of a concrete I-Beam bridge over Hill Creek (LM 7.23), including grading, drainage and paving: There will be no long-term lane closures as a result of this project. The existing bridge will remain open until construction of a new adjacent structure. Traffic lanes across the bridge are 11 feet. The contractor may have intermittent short-term lane closures to move equipment. Flaggers will be present to assist with traffic control. Estimated project completion date is November 2012. 
 
CLAY / OVERTON COUNTY, SR-52 grading, drainage, paving, and construction of five bridges and retaining wall from existing SR-52 (LM 24.66) to 0.4 mile east of Overton County Line (LM 0.4): The contractor is currently constructing the bridge at Wet Mill Creek and performing grading operations. There are no lane closures scheduled at this time. The contractor is using a flagging operation in order to navigate construction equipment through the project as needed. Estimated project completion date is November 2012. 
 
CLAY COUNTY, SR-52 grading, drainage, and paving from west of existing SR-53 to existing SR-52: Construction signs are posted on SR-52 and James White Road.  The contractor is currently performing grading and blasting operations north of Poor House Ridge Rd. to South of SR-53. Traffic has been relocated onto new alignment of Pinkley Ave. at the entrance to the Cumberland River Hospital. Haul trucks and equipment will be entering and exiting SR-53 at SR-52 and the entrance to the Cumberland River Hospital. Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed. Estimated project completion date is September 2014.  
 
CLAY COUNTY, SR-52 bridge construction over New Hope Branch beginning east of New Hope Branch (LM 15.75) to the Cumberland River (LM 17.49), including grading drainage and paving: The contractor is constructing new bridge and performing grading operations. There are no lane closures scheduled at this time. The contractor is using a flagging operation to navigate construction equipment through the project. Estimated project completion date is November 2011. 
 
CLAY COUNTY, SR-53 resurfacing from the Obey River Bridge (LM 8.04) to north of Lick Creek Rd. (LM 12.91): The contractor will be performing resurfacing work. Traffic will be navigated through the project using a flagging operation. Estimated completion date is November 2011. 
 
COFFEE COUNTY, U.S. 41 (SR-2) construction of a welded steel girder bridge over the Duck River (LM 12.72) including grading, drainage, and paving: (Recovery Act Project) The contractor is currently clearing, relocating utilities and constructing the first phase of the bridge. The contractor is using a flagging operation to navigate construction equipment through the project. Estimated project completion date is May 2012. 
 
CUMBERLAND COUNTY, SR-101 (Lantana Rd.) widening project, including grading, drainage, installation of signals and paving from SR-282 (Dunbar Rd.) to SR-392 (Miller Ave.): (Recovery Act Project) The contractor will be performing grading activities, paving and utility relocation. Traffic has been shifted to the northbound lanes of the new alignment from SR 419 (Pigeon Ridge Road) to Fox Fire Road to allow grade work for the southbound lanes. Two lanes of traffic (one in each direction) have been switched to the new alignment from Dorton Road to Miller Avenue with new signal lights at Miller Avenue. Dorton Road will remain open as the connector between the new alignment and existing Lantana Road, but now will be a side street (with stop signs as you approach the new alignment). New Ford Street to the left of the new alignment will be temporarily closed to allow grade work to continue. New Ford Street to the right of the new alignment will now be a side street. The right turn lane from North Lantana Road to South Miller Avenue has been temporarily closed to allow widening of Miller Avenue. West Adams Street is open to traffic. There may be short lane closures and temporary lane stoppages on SR-282, SR-101 and SR-392 for utility relocation, paving and grading activities. Estimated project completion date is May 2012. 
 
CUMBERLAND COUNTY, U.S. 70 (SR-1) construction of a concrete Bulb-Tee bridge over Caney Fork River (LM 15.40), including grading, drainage and paving: Construction signs have been installed.  Two-way traffic is being maintained on the existing bridge as construction activities are in progress for the new adjacent structure. Estimated project completion date is May 2013. 
 
DEKALB COUNTY, SR-56 bridge rehabilitation project (Hurricane Bridge) over Caney Fork River (LM 15.40): The bridge currently is down to only one lane of traffic, and it is being maintained and controlled by a temporary signal for the safety of the traveling public. The current weight postings of 10 tons for two-axle vehicles and 18 tons for vehicles with three or more axles will remain in effect and will be strictly enforced. This will allow for work adjacent to the north side of the bridge to continue. On Tuesday, November 8 the contractor will close the bridge to all traffic between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. CST to pour a portion of the new concrete deck. While the bridge is closed, all traffic will be redirected to the currently posted truck detour that utilizes I-40 at Exit 254 to SR-53. Message boards will be posted. The bridge will be reopened to normal one-lane signal-controlled traffic the following morning by 6:00 a.m. If the contractor is unable to perform this work, it will be rescheduled to take place on either the evening of Wednesday, November 9 or Thursday, November 10 between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Further temporary lane shifts may be implemented by flaggers on an “as needed” basis to facilitate work as it progresses. Estimated project completion date is October 2013. 
 
DEKALB COUNTY, College Street bridge repair over U.S. 70 (SR-26) (LM 0.36): Te project is complete pending final inspection. 
 
DEKALB COUNTY, Pea Ridge Road bridge replacement over Dry Creek (LM 5.22): The bridge is currently closed to all traffic. Temporary detours have been posted. Estimated project completion date is November 2011. 
 
DEKALB COUNTY, Tramel Road bridge replacement over Helton Creek (LM 2.11): The bridge is currently closed to all traffic. Temporary detours have been posted. Estimated project completion date is November 2011. 
 
DEKALB COUNTY, SR-288 resurfacing from the bridge over Sink Creek (LM 4.93) to SR-56 (LM 8.31): The contractor may have temporary lane closures and pace traffic at various times depending on the scope of work both northbound and southbound from 6AM - 6PM on weekdays. Estimated project completion date is November 2011. 
 
FENTRESS COUNTY, SR-52 construction of a concrete Bulb-Tee beam bridge over the East Fork of the Obey River (LM 5.23), including grading, drainage and paving: The contractor is constructing a new bridge and performing grading operations. There are no lane closures on this project at this time. Estimated completion date is November 2011. 
 
GRUNDY COUNTY, SR-56, construction of a precast structure over Firescald Creek (LM 21.30), including grading, drainage, and paving: (Recovery Act Project) The contractor is currently performing bridge work on the project. There are no lane closures scheduled at this time. Estimated project completion date is November 2011. 
 
HAMILTON COUNTY, I-24 resurfacing beginning west of Chattanooga Creek (LM 6.18 / MM 177) to near Crest Rd. (LM 11.35 / MM 183), including bridge deck repair: The contractor has completed all contract items. The  contractor may need either one lane or two lanes closed (only 10PM-5AM) to address punchlist items. At least one lane of traffic will be maintained at all times. THP will assist with traffic control. Estimated project completion date is November 2011. 
 
HAMILTON COUNTY, I-75 design-build project from Enterprise South interchange (Exit 9) to SR-317 (Apison Pike) at Old Lee Hwy.: The contractor is constructing the new bridge to connect the interchange at Exit 9 to SR-317 at Old Lee Hwy. Estimated completion date is January 2012. 
 
HAMILTON COUNTY, College Drive East widening project from west of Sunkist Terrace to SR-317 (Apison Pike): The contractor will be working on College Drive East throughout the project area placing barrier rail and installing erosion control items between 7AM- 6PM Monday through Saturday. Flaggers will be in place to assist with traffic control. Estimated project completion date is July 2012. 
 
HAMILTON COUNTY, SR-60 construction of concrete slab bridge over branch (LM 0.44):  (This project is near the Meigs County Line.) The contractor may be performing work throughout the project area between 7AM-6PM Monday through Saturday. Flaggers will assist with traffic control. Estimated project completion date is December 2011. 
 
HAMILTON COUNTY, U.S. 11 (SR-2, Cummings Hwy.) construction of concrete bulb-tee beam bridge over Lookout Creek (LM 3.64) including grading, drainage and paving: The contractor will be implementing temporary lane closures or shifts between 9AM-3PM Monday through Saturday in the work zone for bridge construction. Flaggers will be in place to assist with traffic control. Estimated project completion date is November 2011. 
 
HAMILTON COUNTY, Shallowford Road construction of concrete Bulb-Tee beam bridge over South Chickamauga Creek (LM 4.01), including grading drainage, and paving: The contractor is constructing the new bridge and performing grading operationsThere will be no long-term lane closures as a result of this project. The existing bridge will remain open until construction of a new adjacent structure. The contractor may have intermittent short-term lane closures to perform bridge work during non-peak hours.Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed. Estimated project completion date is June 2012. 
 
HAMILTON COUNTY, U.S. 11 (SR-2, Lee Highway) construction of a concrete box beam bridge over the CSX Railroad (LM 16.25), including grading, drainage and paving: The contractor is performing erosion control measurements, grading operations and constructing the new bridge. There will be no long-term lane closures as a result of this project. The existing bridge will remain open until construction of a new adjacent structure is complete. The contractor may have intermittent short-term lane closures to perform bridge work during non-peak hours. The Tennessee American Water Company will have one lane of traffic closed on U.S. 11/Lee Hwy. northbound at the bridge in order to repair a leaking water main. One 12’ lane of traffic will be open at all times. Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed. Estimated project completion date is June 2012. 
 
Hamilton County, U.S. 127 (SR-8) resurfacing beginning south of Glendale Drive (LM 14.03) to Miles Road (LM 18.87): This work is complete pending final inspection. Estimated project completion date is November 2011. 
 
Hamilton County, SR-17 (S. Willow St./N. Willow St./E. 3rd St./Dodson Ave./Glass St.) resurfacing from U.S. 41 (U.S. 76, SR-8, LM 2.54) to Campbell Street (LM 6.33): The project is complete and awaiting final inspection. Estimated project completion date is November 2011. 
 
Jackson County, SR-135 construction of a concrete box bridge over Keeling Branch (LM 17.62), including grading, drainage, and paving: The contractor may implement temporary lane closures on weekdays and pace traffic at various times during the hours of 6AM-6PM depending on the scope of work on SR-135 North and South. Estimated project completion date is November 2011. 
 
Jackson County, Big Bottom Road construction of a concrete I-beam bridge over Brimstone Creek (LM 10.36), including grading, drainage, and paving: The existing bridge has been removed. Detour signs are in place for local traffic. Estimated project completion date is June 2012. 
 
MARION COUNTY, I-24 at Exit 152 construction of a concrete Bulb-Tee beam bridge on U.S. 72 (SR-27) including grading, drainage, and paving:  The contractor continues work on the bridge. Any interstate lane closures on I-24 will be at nighttime between 6PM-6AM. Flaggers and THP will assist with traffic control as needed.  Estimated project completion date is September 2012. 
 
Marion County, u.s. 41 (U.S. 64, U.S. 72, SR-2) replacement of the truss bridge over the Tennessee River at Nickajack Lake (LM 21.14): The contractor is continuing construction of a new multi-span steel plate girder bridge over the Tennessee River.  The existing truss bridge over the Tennessee River will remain open to traffic, but the contractor will implement occasional lane closures on weekdays and weeknights to facilitate operations related to construction of the new bridge. One lane will remain open at all times. Flaggers will assist with traffic control. Estimated project completion date is August 2013. 
 
MCMINN COUNTY, SR-30 widening project, including grading, drainage, construction of a concrete box beam bridge and a retaining wall, including signal installation, from Athens City Limits to east of County Road 609: Traffic will be detoured to the eastbound lanes of the new alignment from the beginning of the project to Allen Circle. Speed limit reduction signs from 45 MPH to 35 MPH continue to be posted throughout the detour from County Road 552 to the end of the project. There will be temporary lane closures during blasting and logging operations. Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed. Estimated project completion is May 2012. 
 
McMinn County, Greens Road bridge replacement over Conasauga Creek (LM 1.41): The bridge is currently closed to all traffic. Temporary detours have been postedEstimated project completion is November 2011. 
 
McMinn County, SR-163 resurfacing from U.S. 11 (SR-2/LM 2.45) to west of Piney Grove Rd. (LM 8.95): The contractor has started installing guardrail on this project. One lane will be temporarily closed with a shadow truck leading traffic in both directions around the work zone. The contractor will be working Monday-Saturday during daytime hours. At least one lane of traffic will be maintained at all times.  Estimated project completion is November 2011. 
 
MEIGS COUNTY, SR-30 relocation beginning east of the Tennessee River to west of SR-58: Work has begun on this project. Traffic will not be affected at this time.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed. Estimated project completion is October 2013. 
 
OVERTON COUNTY, SR-84 construction of two concrete Bulb-Tee beam bridges, including grading, drainage and paving beginning near existing SR-85 (Windle Road) to SR-84: The operation to construct a new bridge is currently underway. The contractor periodically will have traffic down to one lane. One of the main line traffic lanes will be closed by the use of barrels during this time. A flagging operation is being used to navigate traffic through the project. Estimated completion date is September 2013. 
 
POLK COUNTY, U.S. 411 (SR-33) grading, drainage, construction of three bridges, and paving beginning 0.23 miles south of Lowery Road and extending to 0.32 miles south of Welcome Valley Road: The contractor is completing paving on this project. One lane of traffic is open in each direction. Estimated project completion date is November 2011. 
 
POLK COUNTY, U.S. 411 (SR-33) grading, drainage, construction of three concrete Bulb-Tee beam bridges, and paving beginning at the Benton City Limits and extending to SR-30: (Recovery Act Project) The contractor is currently relocating utilities, grading, and installing structures. The contractor is using a flagging operation to navigate construction equipment through the project. Estimated project completion date is November 2012. 
 
POLK COUNTY, U.S. 64 (SR-40) rehabilitation of bridge over Brush Creek (LM 23.04): Traffic signals have been installed at each end of the bridge to regulate the flow of traffic through the area. The contractor has moved traffic to the newly paved side of the bridge. A one 11’--lane traffic operation is currently in effect. This one-lane traffic operation will remain in place while the repairs to the bridge are being completed. Delays are possible and wide loads cannot pass across the Brush Creek Bridge. Estimated project completion date is November 2011. 
 
PUTNAM COUNTY, U.S. 70N (SR-24) resurfacing from west of Garrett Avenue and 4th West Street (LM 17.92) to west of Neal Street and Old Kentucky Road (LM 20.77): The contractor may implement temporary lane closures on weekdays and pace traffic at various times during the hours of 6AM-6PM depending on the scope of work on SR-24. Estimated project completion date is November 2011. 
 
RHEA COUNTY, SR-29 (U.S. 27) rehabilitation of bridge over Richland Creek (LM 5.58): The project is complete pending final inspection. 
 
RHEA COUNTY, SR-29 entrance to Bryan College (Landes Way): Traffic signals are in operating mode. With the opening of Landes Way, 11th Avenue between Richland Street and SR 29 has been permanently closed. The project is awaiting final inspection. Estimated project completion date is November 2011. 
 
SEQUATCHIE / VAN BUREN COUNTY, SR-111 grading, drainage and paving beginning 3,500 ft. south of SR-8 in Sequatchie County to 1,000 ft. south of SR-284 (Welchland Rd.) in Van Buren County: Work continues on the widening project on SR-111. Estimated project completion date is October 2012. 
 
VAN BUREN COUNTY, SR-111 interchange construction project at SR-284 junction, including grading, drainage and construction of a concrete Bulb-Tee beam bridge: Traffic has been detoured from the existing SR- 284 and Baker Mountain Road to the new construction. Estimated project completion date is November 2011. 
 
WARREN COUNTY, U.S. 70S (SR-1) relocation of roadway from Centertown to Spring Valley Road including construction of two concrete Bulb-Tee beam bridges, grading, drainage, and some paving: (Recovery Act Project) Grading operation on this project is active. Crisp Springs Road is closed with signed detour. All motorists should use caution and be alert to construction equipment and vehicles on the project. Flaggers may be present on side roads. Estimated project completion date is December 2011. 
 
WARREN COUNTY, SR-56 bridge replacement project (Beersheba St. Bridge) for construction of a concrete bulb-tee beam bridge over the Barren Fork River (LM 11.77) including grading, drainage and paving: There will be no long-term lane closures as a result of this project. The existing bridge will remain open until construction of a new adjacent structure. The contractor may have intermittent short-term lane closures to move equipment. Flaggers will be present to assist with traffic control. Estimated project completion date is July 2012.  
 
WARREN COUNTY, SR-286 bridge replacement project for construction of a concrete bulb-tee beam bridge over Big Hickory Creek (LM 0.59) including grading, drainage and paving: (Recovery Act Project) There will be no long-term lane closures as a result of this project. The existing bridge is down to one 12’-lane and traffic is controlled by signalization. Motorists should expect short delays. The contractor may have intermittent short-term lane closures to move equipment. Flaggers will be present to assist with traffic control. Estimated project completion date is July 2012. 
 
WHITE COUNTY, SR-111 construction of a concrete Bulb-Tee beam bridge, including grading, drainage and paving at SR-135 junction:  The possibility for blasting exists daily on weekdays between the hours of 10AM and 2PM. During blasting, traffic will be stopped for approximately 15 to 20 minutes for safety purposes. The contractor may implement temporary lane closures on weekdays and pace traffic at various times during the hours of 6AM-6PM depending on the scope of work on SR-111 North and South between log mile 11 and 13. Flaggers will be present to assist with traffic control. Estimated completion date is May 2012. 
 
White County, Big Bottom Road bridge replacement over Caney Fork River (LM 1.41): The bridge is currently closed to all traffic. Temporary detours have been postedEstimated completion date is May 2012. 
 
WHITE COUNTY, U.S. 70 (SR-26) resurfacing from the Dekalb County Line (LM 0.00) to east of SR-136 (LM 5.35): The contractor may implement temporary lane closures on weekdays and pace traffic at various times during the hours of 6AM-6PM depending on the scope of work on SR-26. Estimated project completion date is November 2011.
