NASHVILLE- The Tennessee Board for Licensing Contractors has ordered the summary suspension of the home improvement license of American Shingle LLC, a company whose sales strategy has involved representatives driving through neighborhoods and promising homeowners insurance-reimbursed roof repairs or replacements.

“It was clear to the Contractors Board that American Shingle failed to perform agreed-upon, contracted work for multiple consumers, and failed to provide a refund to them,” says Commerce and Insurance Commissioner Leslie A. Newman. “According to state law, the Board may vote for the summary suspension of a business’ license, pending proceedings for revocation or other action if it finds that public health, safety or welfare requires emergency action.” The company is ordered to cease and desist from home contract work until the matter can be addressed in a formal hearing before the board.

The company has filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy, under case number 10-85541-MGD. The Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance’s Division of Consumer Affairs has mediated complaints and is informing affected consumers to file a claim in the Chapter 7 Court because a trustee has been appointed by the Court. Consumers who wish to file a claim should download the claims form at http://www.uscourts.gov/uscourts/RulesAndPolicies/rules/BK_Forms_Official_2010/B_010_0410.pdf
, fill it out (include the case number) and mail it to: Clerk of the Court, Northern District of Georgia, 1340 U.S. Courthouse, 75 Spring Street SW, Atlanta, GA 30303.
