TDOC Issues Call For Nurses

Wednesday, May 19, 2010 | 08:17am

TIPTONVILLE - The Tennessee Department of Correction is experiencing a critical shortage of nurses at the Northwest Correctional Complex in Lake County.  There are currently 17 full-time RN and LPN positions vacant at the facility.

This weekend, the TDOC will hold a job fair for interested nurse applicants to learn more about the benefits of working in a correctional facility and for the State of Tennessee.  The job fair will include a tour of the facility, information on compensation, educational benefits and flexible schedules.

"Often people do not consider careers in corrections because they are simply unaware of the opportunities," said Commissioner Gayle Ray.  "I have found that many people discover that it is a rewarding career in a safe environment and wish they had known about it earlier."
