Wednesday, May 12, 2010 | 07:00am
NASHVILLE – Tennessee bankers gathered today to discuss the latest trends and issues important to the banking industry.

More than 120 bankers from across the state traveled to participate in “A Day with the Commissioner” hosted by Department of Financial Institutions Commissioner Greg Gonzales along with the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis and the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. The event featured expert financial speakers and a panel discussion.

“While today’s environment is certainly challenging, I am confident that Tennessee’s banking system will remain sound and well positioned to continue serving Tennesseans,” Commissioner Gonzales said. “Today’s discussion takes a more in-depth look at important issues surrounding our banking industry and leaders, and we hope these efforts will further support a sound banking system.”

Banking and financial experts spoke on topics that addressed the current state of the banking industry, discussed commercial real estate, provided an overall economic update and concluded with a panel discussion on the future of community and regional banking.

“This event shows the dedication our banking leaders have in furthering the success of our financial institutions in serving Tennessee communities,” Gonzales said.

Tennessee is home to 160 state-chartered banks and 20 nationally-chartered banks, making the event an important opportunity for state banking leaders to gain insight on the current state of the financial industry and its future.
